Pasquale Verdi
7/23/2010

Pasquale Verdi age 103 of Wayne, 90 year resident of Hudson County, died Friday, July 23, 2010.

He was born in Jersey City having attended Dickinson High School, Jersey City with the Class of 1923. His family owned, and Pasquale worked at, the Verdi Cooperage Company, Edgewater where they made wooden beer barrels. He did this until 1983 when the company was closed and he became the bookkeeper for his wife’s beauty salon, Verdi Beauty Salon, Union City until his retirement.

Pasquale met his future wife, Cecelia Hart,  at the Meyers Hotel in Hoboken. She was a waitress and he would come in at lunch time and always request Cecelia as his waitress. Pasquale, who started his day at noon time, would always come in and order eggs. The chef would get mad at Cecelia for taking a breakfast order at lunch time. They fell in love and married on October 25, 1949 in Englewood, NJ. They honeymooned at Niagara Falls, NY and enjoyed thirty six years of loving marriage before Cecelia’s passing in 1985.

Pasquale will always be remembered for his: sense of humor, quit wit, bowties, ballroom dancing, devotion as a father, and as a loving husband.

He was the devoted husband of the late Cecelia (Hart) Verdi(1985)-former owner of Verdi Beauty Salon, Union City; loving father of M. Edward Verdi II and his wife Adele of Wayne, and Patricia Ogawa and her husband Richi of Toms River; loved step-father of Ellen O’Sullivan of Beverly Hills, FL and Harry J. O’Sullivan of Norfolk, VA; much loved brother of Emma Libutti, Michael Verdi, Nicholas Verdi, M. Edward Verdi I and Florence Verdi all of whom predeceased him.

Friends may visit with the family from 10 AM – 11 AM on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Tuesday just after the visitation.
