Anne E. Post, age 73 of Wayne on Sunday November 4, 2007. She was born in Newark and had lived in Wayne for the past twenty-seven years.

Anne worked at the Wayne office of the American Automobile Association, known as “Triple A”, for seventeen years, having recently retired in 2005. She enjoyed a very close and special friendship with many of her co-workers at AAA and her years there were some of the most memorable times of her life. Her hobbies included knitting and stitching but she got the most joy out of being a mother to her four wonderful children. She was also the kind of person who would reach out to anyone in need and selflessly help them in anyway she knew how. This was especially evident to her coworkers at AAA.

She is survived by her four children; Kristen Post-DeSantis and her husband Stephen of Clark, NJ; Kevin Post of Fall River, MA; Brian Post of Tarrytown, NY; and Sean Post of Wayne, NJ. One grandson, Devon Post of Clark, NJ; two brothers; Richard George and his wife Janet of Lake Hopatcong, NJ; and Robert George and his wife Marie of Hamilton, NJ, and twelve nieces and nephews.

Isak Yahes, 82, of Wayne died on Saturday November 3, 2007. His passing was quiet and peaceful while at home with his family.

He was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1925 and lived there before coming to America in 1956, originally settling in the Bronx. He later lived with his family in the Whitestone section of Queens, Teaneck, NJ, Oakland, NJ, and eventually settled in Wayne 14 years ago. He attended Robert College in Istanbul, graduating with a degree in Business Administration. He worked in the Import/Export industry in Turkey where he was able to use his fluency in English, Spanish, French, and Turkish to conduct international trade.

He enjoyed 62 years of ‘wonderful’ marriage to Elda, until her passing in 2005. Isak and Elda were acquaintances in Turkey, but fell in love when they later met in Israel. They married shortly thereafter in Turkey and began to raise their family together there. He was a devoted husband and truly loved his wife.

His family remembers him as a “realistic” man, and a man of his word. He enjoyed traveling and filming their vacations. They especially recall his “Pearls of Wisdom”; when he would offer his wisdom and advice to them. After a debilitating stroke at the age of 55, Isak found the ability to enjoy life vicariously through the rest of his family. His grandson Jarrod describes how his grandfather was so proud of his children and grandchildren, their successes in life, and how it made him so happy simply to see all of them doing well and living the ‘American Dream’. His legacy lives on proudly in all of them.

He is survived by two sons; Meir and his wife Estelle of Edgewater, NJ; Leon and his wife Litsi of Quito, Ecuador; one daughter Orette and her husband Mehran Vaziri of Wayne; four grandsons, Jarrod Yahes of NY, NY; Matthew Yahes of Chicago, Il; Alexander Vaziri and Austin Vaziri both of Wayne; and one granddaughter, Rachel Yahes of NY, NY. It is also special to note that he was predeceased by all four of his faithful canine companions; Heidi, Othello, Hammy, and Mammy.

As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Isak’s memory to the Hospice of New Jersey, 400 Broad Acres Drive, Bloomfield, NJ 07003.

Christopher John Silk, Age 45 Final Voyage – January 5, 1962 – October 28, 2007

Chris was truly an exceptional young man with a true passion for life and a desire to make every moment count. Without question, Chris always met every challenge head on and never failed to make us proud. We’ll never forget his accordion recital at his kindergarten graduation or his 30 meter ski jumps during his freshman year at Vermont Academy H.S. It wasn’t long before Chris’s love of skiing and his flare for cooking took him to the slopes of Vermont where he put those skills to work at the Post Horn Inn Ski Lodge on Magic Mountain. I can well remember the season when the Smitty’s, O’Connor’s & Silk’s (O’SMILK’s) joined Chris at the Post Horn Inn for a bit of skiing and a lot fun. Chris was the super host who just couldn’t do enough for his friends and guests.

Chris’s competitive nature always came out during a round of golf or skiing a black diamond mountain. In contrast, his love of music, art, children and animals always brought out his more sensitive and gentle side. He loved everyone and enjoyed sharing his talents, especially with our first granddaughter Brittany. It wasn’t long after that he fell in love and was blessed with a beautiful daughter of his own. Without question, this was the happiest moment in his life. His daughter Lane now 17, holds a very special place in Chris’s heart.

In 1996 Chris suffered a traumatic brain injury that left him paralyzed on his right side and unable to speak. In spite of this deficit and the ominous predictions of doctors he was determined to beat the odds and again met this challenge head on. With only one objective, to overcome, he soon learned to communicate, walk, and do the everyday things we do without trying. In 2005 he courageously moved from the cold North to Sarasota FL where the more favorable weather would be gentler for him. This endeavor soon proved a very worth while experience for him. His new environment soon allowed him to do things he hadn’t experienced in years. You could easily see his excitement when socializing with his peers and participating in outings where he went bowling, shot billiards and fished. He was never happier living in Florida and sharing this happiness with all his family who traveled with him throughout his long journey. High on his list of fun were the visits of his nephew Joey and nieces Brittany, Lindsay who always made him laugh and forget the difficulties of his journey.

Then one day in January 2007 and without warning, Chris was given yet one more challenge. He began a vigorous fight with throat cancer. Being the trooper he is he gave this uphill battle his very best until the end and without fear of the outcome. He truly believed in God and got solace knowing he would again be a whole person in heaven, able to run and talk. He knows his grand parents are waiting for him and he tells us not to worry because he will be saving a great spot for us when our time arrives.

Chris has truly made a very positive difference in the lives of everyone he touched. He taught us to be courageous, show compassion, to give unselfishly and never take anything for granted.

Chris is survived by his loving family, Helene & Brittany Lindstrom, Darlene, Joe, Lindsay and Joey Donegan, his daughter Lane Silk and parents Catherine & Stephen Silk.

Ann Parolie (nee Skurla) of Wayne passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the age of 86. Her passing was quiet and peaceful, while she received the loving care of her devoted family at her side.

Born in Ladimorova, Czechoslovakia, Ann came to America by boat with her aunt, first settling in Passaic, NJ and then living in Wayne for the last forty-seven years. Her father, a prominent politician, made several trips to America and returned to tell his family about this wonderful land of opportunity. Ann saw very little opportunity in her native land, so she gathered herself up and ventured to a new life in 1936, at the young age of 16. She left her parents and six sisters behind. As she explained to her family many times, a little adversity came her way on her trip. In making conversation with a fellow traveler, she was advised to send a telegram about her impending arrival to America. She gave that traveler her last bit of money for the telegram, and that person absconded with her money. Ann often related that she arrived in America with just a bag of apples and the clothes on her back.

Ann was gifted with intelligence that others admired. Although her physical self had failed in the last years of her life, her mind remained incredibly strong. In fact, when her children couldn’t remember someone’s name or the details of an event, they would always call Mom knowing that she would have the answer, and with rare exception, she always did. She was a champion at word puzzles and Rummy 500, and she could debate political issues with anyone who was willing.

The true essence of Ann was her incomparable kindness, integrity, generosity, courage, wisdom, willfulness and sense of humor. A shining role model to her family, her mantra was to “always do the right thing” and that is the way she lived her life.

Without question, her children and grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She loved them with all her heart and would practically burst at the seams with pride as she spoke of them. However, perhaps her greatest accomplishment was her marriage of 64 years.

A true love story, Ann and Jim met while working together. They went on just one date, and Jim was called to duty in the Army. When he returned a few months later, a friend told him that Ann Skurla wanted to see him. When he went to see her, they decided to get married, and they married just three months later at a civil ceremony. He then left for the Army for 2 years and when he returned, they married again in church.

Surviving are her loving husband James Parolie; one son, Dr. James Parolie, and his wife Donna of Readington; three daughters, Janis O’Brien and her husband Vincent of Kinnelon, Ellen Reggiani and her husband Greg of Whippany, and Lori Profeta and her dear partner Jeff Kole of Basking Ridge; nine grandchildren, Courtney Linstra and her husband Garry, James O’Brien, Christopher Parolie, Jennifer Reggiani, Lauren Reggiani, Matthew Parolie, Jeffrey Reggiani, Alexandra Parolie and Casandra Reggiani; and one great grandchild Griffin James Linstra.

Those planning an expression of sympathy in Ann’s memory are asked to consider the Wayne Memorial First Aid Squad, PO Box 291, Wayne, NJ 07470 or American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.

John Joseph “Johnny” Ponce III age 43 of Wayne on Friday, October 12, 2007 while receiving the care and support of family and friends.

He was born in New York City and has lived in Wayne for the past thirty-five years.

John graduated from Wayne Hills High School, Wayne with the class of 1982. He was active in sports at Wayne Hills having played soccer, baseball, basketball and football. John went on to graduate from the Lincoln Technical School, Union where he learned the electrical trade.

John was an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Union Local 164, Paramus and was currently working for the Scholes Electric Corporation in Piscataway.

Johnny will be remembered for his giant sense of humor, being a stereotypical “Fighting Irishman”, and for his stubbornness. He loved the Rangers, the Giants, the Yankees and Notre Dame. But most of all Johnny loved children. He had a huge soft spot in his heart for children who would sense his giant loving heart and would always want to be around their “Uncle Johnny”, as he was known to the children of his family and friends. Christmas Eve was always a busy night for Uncle Johnny – he would put on his red suit and visit many of the lucky children in his life. Uncle Johnny will live on in the hearts of the children who experienced his unconditional love.

He was a great friend who would be there to help if he was ever needed. If a friend or family member needed Johnny, he would drop everything to help out in any way he could. He never wanted to be a burden on anyone or ask for anyone else’s help.

Beloved son of John Ponce II of Wayne and Rosemary Fluchs and her husband Helmut of Wayne; loving brother of Jeannine Missbrenner and her husband Andrew of Pompton Plains, Alison Tryon and her husband Michael of Oakland and Kevin Ponce and his wife Kim of Ringwood; much loved uncle of Andrew, Christopher and Kathryn Missbrenner and Kaylin Ponce; cherished by many aunts, uncles, cousins, children and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Tomorrows Children’s Fund, 30 Prospect Ave., Hackensack, NJ 07601 would be appreciated.

A note from Johnny's friend Mike Riordan

1984 was a great year for Johnny Ponce. His hair was in full bloom. A tiny Irish tattoo decorated his shoulder. Upper body muscles were clearly evident although white wig-wam socks drew too much attention to his shaven legs. More importantly, two cultural events occurred that would define much of Johnny’s life. The first was the release of the motion picture Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers, whose anagram C.H.U.D. would replace his last name. Despite its violent nature and unfavorable critical reviews, Johnny would sell the virtues of this film for the rest of the decade. Secondly, the first of too many albums by Jon Bon Jovi was released. Thanks to the Sayreville native, Johnny found justification for his hair style and a voice for his often hidden sensitive side.

Carol A. Thomas (nee Yarbrough) of Wayne, age 66, died at home on Friday, October 12, 2007. She passed peacefully with her loving and devoted family at her bedside.

She was born in Baltimore, Maryland and had lived in Japan, Hawaii, and Cape Cod all before the age of 18, following her father’s career as an officer in the U.S. Army. She graduated from high school in Cape Cod with the Class of 1959. She then attended St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in New York City and graduated with the Class of 1963. Carol's nursing career spanned four decades. She has lived in Wayne for the past 46 years.

For the past 30 years she was a registered nurse at the Morristown Memorial Hospital Emergency Department in Morristown, NJ. She retired in 2002 but continued to work part time because she loved nursing too much to leave it completely. She had an innate ability to bring calm to any situation, which made her an invaluable asset in the sometimes chaotic atmosphere of the emergency room. She established strong friendships at work and with everyone she came in contact.

When she was diagnosed with cancer, her family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers responded immediately in an outpouring of love. Since Carol enjoyed quilting, the nursing staff quickly sent out ‘patch kits’ to all the colleagues she worked with over the 30 years. The patches were decorated by each person and then all returned, each with a special note on it. The patches were then sewn together into a large quilt which they presented to Carol at a surprise birthday party. She cherished that gift. Her support network cooked meals for her, took her for hospital visits, and assisted with her care in every way that they could. She was truly loved by all.

She enjoyed gardening and earned Master Gardener certification after attending the Passaic County Master Gardener Association. She volunteered her time at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Helpline, answering callers' gardening questions. Roses were her favorite flower, but she loved all types of flowers and vegetable gardening. She planted the rose garden at the Packanack Lake Tennis courts and often tended to her neighbors' gardens during their times of need. As a tribute to Carol, the tennis court rose garden is receiving perpetual care by a devoted friend.

She was active in the Packanack Lake Tennis Club, playing on the A team, and she was previously a secretary for the tennis club. She also enjoyed quilting and regularly attended quilting weekends in the Adirondacks with her daughter, Beth. Carol had made many crib quilts over the years that she gave to her family's, friends' and neighbors' newborns who cherish the quilts to this day.

John and Carol had a wonderful marriage of 46 years. John described his wife as “super”, “an angel”, and “irreplaceable.” She was always the one with the level head, the cool disposition, and the soothing ability. She calmly accepted her prognosis; her family derived strength and courage from her positive attitude. Carol was loved by all and will be missed dearly.

Surviving are her husband John; her daughter Beth Phelps and her husband Peter of Williamstown, MA; her son John of Bloomingdale, NJ; her mother, Dorothy Yarbrough of Bryans Road, Maryland; one brother, John Yarbrough of Welcome, Maryland; one sister, Joan Moulton of Granite City, Illinois; two grandchildren, Sarah and Daniel Phelps; and nieces and nephews.

Edward Joseph Brodhead was born in Scranton, PA, on February 24, 1918, eighth of nine children of Calvin Easton Brodhead and Gertrude (neé McNulty) Brodhead. He died on Monday, September 24, at Renaissance Gardens at Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains, NJ. He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers William, Anne (Sister Anne Marie, Sisters of Charity), Katharine, Philip (Father Martin Brodhead, T.O.R.), Mary, Laura, Gertrude, and Daniel. He is survived by his wife Doris (neé Pettigrew), four daughters, Judith Brodhead (Gary Smith), Patricia Brodhead (Joseph Eastburn), Joan Brodhead (James Mog), and Doris Brodhead (Susan Tracy), as well as eight grandchildren: Matthew, Sarah, and Garrett Smith; Chloe Eastburn; Andrew and Eddy Mog, and Ted and Annie Brodhead.

As a youngster, Ed lived in Glenburn, PA, and later in Redbank, NJ, Bethlehem, PA, and East Orange, NJ, where he graduated from East Orange High School in 1935. His first job after graduation from high school during the Depression was for Macy’s department store in Newark. Because of his lifelong love of the ocean and seagoing vessels, after the war broke out he joined the Coast Guard in 1942. He served at various Coast Guard stations on the Atlantic coast and was then assigned to a Destroyer Escort (the U.S.S. Vance) in 1945, which patrolled in the Pacific. He entered the Coast Guard as Yeoman 3rd class and was honorably discharged as a Yeoman 1st class.

Ed and Doris met at a Christmas party in 1949 and their first date was at Rod’s Road House. They were married on November 18, 1950 at Holy Name in East Orange and were later parishioners at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Wayne. They raised four children in the red Cape Cod on Hillcrest Drive. They bought their house in 1952 and lived in it for 52 years.

He was a lover of sailboats from childhood and enjoyed sailing on Packanack Lake in both a Snipe and a Sunfish. Judy, Pat, Joan, and Doris have many fond memories of their father teaching them how to swim in the summer and ice skate in the winter at the lake. They often invited friends and family to swim at the beach followed by a barbecue at the house.

Ed attended classes at Seton Hall University in South Orange in the early 1950s while working for Peter Kero Construction. Beginning in the mid-1950s he worked for Schiavone Construction Company in Secaucus, N.J., as one of the early employees of the company. He retired in 1982 and spent many years as a volunteer for Skylands and the Wayne Township Public Library. In addition to making many close friends at Schiavone, he and wife Doris enjoyed the yearly trips longtime company employees made together to locations such as Bermuda and Barbados, and as recently as last year attended a Schiavone party at Fiddler’s Elbow in Bedminster. After his retirement, he and Doris enjoyed traveling to Canda, Europe and around the United States, as well as visiting their children and grandchildren, who settled near Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

As an adolescent he spent so much time playing pickup games of ice hockey (breaking his nose twice) that he said he played ice hockey in his dreams. Ed had a wonderful baritone voice, and he and his wife Doris, who also loves to sing, would return from Broadway shows during the 1950s and 60s and sing along with the cast albums of shows like My Fair Lady and Camelot for their children. Later they enjoyed attending the Metropolitan Opera and held season tickets for many years. He also loved crossword puzzles and did the New York Times crossword puzzle into his early 80s.

Ed loved playing bridge with his men’s group and with couples before their move to Cedar Crest as well as playing Crazy Eights with his youngest grandchildren Annie (4) and Ted (7) quite recently. He was a member of the local Toastmasters chapter for several years along with many of his neighbors

Frances Moya (nee Delgado) age 91 of Wayne died on Friday August 24th, 2007 peacefully at home while surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Frances was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She came to this country when she was a teenager and settled in Manhattan. She then moved to Riverdale, Bronx and lived there for forty six years until moving to Wayne, NJ two years ago.
Frances was a medical secretary for Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and a secretary for Manhattan College in New York, until her retirement 18 years ago. She belonged to the Preakness Valley United Reformed Church of Wayne.
Frances’ family remembers her as being an avid reader and quite a history buff; she loved birds, nature, and loved being surrounded by flowers. She was very much a lover of music and art and she painted beautifully. Frances loved to travel and was a strong believer in the education of children. Her family also remembers her as being very spiritual and having a deep and profound wisdom. There was nothing more important to Frances than her family and her many cherished friends.
Frances is survived by her Daughter Rosa Conte of Wayne and her son Robert Rosado of Hollywood, FL; nine Grandchildren: Sandra, Anthony, Michael, Kristy, Robert, Frances, Christopher, Randal, and Russell; ten Great Grandchildren: Jonathon, Dominic, Gianna, Amanda, Natalie, Jessica, Matthew, Madeleine, Kyle, and Brandon; and three Great Great Grandchildren: Arthur Arian and Michala.
Both troubled times and sunshine days Were present in her years
With memories strong she carried on Now death holds no more fear
I wonder does she realize The blessings she bestowed
On those around who hold her dear And reap the love she sowed
And maybe she is now aware Of what her life displayed
That God was watching from above And walked with her each day
He knows about her every need The pain she, He bears
And now She’ll never be alone Forevermore…. He’s there

Jane K. Byles, age 86 of Wayne died on Thursday August 23, 2007 at the Sunrise Assisted Living, Fairfield, NJ with her family gathered around her.
Jane was born in East Orange and graduated high school there in 1939. She attended Upsala College, graduating in 1943 with a degree in biology. She worked as a biology laboratory technician before becoming a full-time mother to her five children.
After the war, Jane and her late husband, Howard (2004) moved to Wayne in 1948, when the town was little more than a farming community. They, along with several other families from their East Orange area neighborhood, settled in Packanack Lake. Jane loved her new home and was very active in the Packanack Community Church as well as various clubs and lake associations in and around Packanack.
Jane particularly loved her summers in Manasquan. Her children and grandchildren recall many fond memories of those summers with her at the beach; deep-sea fishing and just enjoying the Jersey Shore.
Jane was a great cook and Christmas was probably her favorite holiday for entertaining, although her home seemed to be the place that almost all holiday’s and family gathers were celebrated.
She enjoyed bowling and was passionate about playing Bridge. When she recently moved to Sunrise Assisted Living in Fairfield, her Bridge partners were no longer close by, so they hired a car service to take them to Jane’s place just so they could play Bridge!
It is also worthy to note that Jane’s father, William Kolb, is credited with inventing the candy apple and the ‘all day sucker’ lolly pop. He had his own confectionery business and later worked for Holsten’s Brookdale Confectionery in Bloomfield, NJ.
Surviving are: one sister, Shirley K. Brown of Marathon, Florida; five children: William Byles and his wife Barbara of Succassuna, NJ; Bonnie Soleau and her husband Glen of Oak Ridge, NJ; Suzanne Sparano and her husband Rick of Caldwell, NJ; Douglas Byles and his wife Meri of Oakland, California; Merry Lynn Daly and her husband John of Nevada City, California; and thirteen grandchildren.

Mildred Frontin (Barth) age 85 of Wayne died on Friday July 20, 2007.

She was born in Jersey City and had lived in Wayne for the past 36 years.

She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s RC Church in Pompton Lakes, NJ.

Mildred’s friends and family were everything to her, especially her friend Dorothy Lee. Mildred and Dorothy met in the fourth grade and remained very close throughout life.

Mildred received the most joy in her life through being kind and helpful to everyone. In fact, many people claim her to be their “second mother” – especially her nephew Hank and her niece Maureen. All of those that knew her understand just how much she enjoyed being helpful to others – whether that meant cooking and cleaning, assisting with math homework, or just being a genuine good friend. She was a person who was extremely generous with all of her heart and soul. It’s sufficed to say that she was entirely selfless and completely devoted to her family and friends. While, at the same time, she was very modest and shyly unwilling to accept any acknowledgement or reward for her acts of kindness.

During high school, she was a very bright student, especially skilled in mathematics. Of course, only a select few were ever aware of this because she didn't want to be praised for her skills. But she gladly put those skills to good use when assisting others. Her intelligence was clearly evident while watching and playing “Jeopardy” on TV – she was very good at it.

Mildred was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1983. She is survived by one daughter, Judith Hancox, and one grandson, Edward Hancox, both of Wayne; one Nephew, Hank Umland and one neice, Maureen Marino. She was also predeceased by her brother Edward Barth, and her sister Dorothy McLellan.

Daniel B. Haynes of Lincoln Park passed into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the age of 31, after a courageous battle with cancer. His death was quiet and peaceful, taking place while he was receiving the loving care of his family who were at his side.

He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in Ballston Lake, New York later living in Parsippany before moving to Lincoln Park one year ago.

Dan received his formal education at Ballston Lake High School in Ballston Lake, New York with the Class of 1993 and then went on to the State University of New York “SUNY” in Albany, New York where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting with the Class of 1997.

Dan was a quiet and conscientious man, with a profound sense of duty and honor. He was a faithful disciple of Christ Jesus and a committed church member of Trinity Baptist Church in Montville, where his reliability and faithfulness in his responsibilities were an example to all. As his days drew to a close, his faith in the Lord Christ grew stronger, and his anticipation of heaven purer and more earnest. This faith colored all of Dan’s life, and its shades only grew deeper as the shadows of death lengthened. The abiding memory of many will be his quiet courage as a Christian man in the face of death, living – and dying – in the certain hope of the glory to come.

He was a sacrificially loving husband to Priscilla, whom he married May 20, 2006 and with whom he enjoyed a wonderful marriage. He was an attentive and caring son, a faithful friend, and a hardworking employee. He never enjoyed being in the foreground, shunning the limelight wherever possible, but had an eye for the needs of others and the demands of specific circumstances. He was in private what he appeared to be in public. Once his heart had discerned a need, his hand was quick to reach out and meet it, diligent to a fault. Dan was an electronics enthusiast, who would rather build a top-end computer than buy one, and whose near-legendary spreadsheet skills were the object of much wonder (and occasional teasing) among his friends. He also enjoyed caring for his car, spending many Saturday mornings washing and waxing his beloved Honda, until marriage gave him better things to do with his time! In his last days, he developed – alongside Priscilla – a love of gardening, appreciating many quiet hours in his yard as his strength permitted.

A meticulous workman, in the family home his willingness to attempt new tasks, allied with his determination to complete the job well, made for high-standard if sometimes slower progress. He hated wasting money, and turned tracking down a good deal into a complex and often drawn-out art form. Working in mid-town Manhattan, he honed his mind through listening to audiobooks on the bus into the city, and toned his body (and spared his wallet) through invariably walking the thirty blocks from the bus stop to his workplace. Dan’s primary vice was a deep attachment to Gatorade, although after his wedding it was noted that he cut back to several bottles daily.

Scuba-diving was a long-term enthusiasm, but he had also played a little football in his youth. His slight frame did not always lend itself to the rigors of the sport, but this never dented his willingness. He approached everything with a strength of spirit that often surprised those who knew him less well, but which – to those who were closer to him – only revealed the true heart of the man. The demands of the last months of his life did not form his sterling character, but only served to reveal it in ways that were a testimony to those around him – above all, a testimony to his deep faith in Christ, and of the foundations that could not be shaken when all else had been stripped away.

Surviving are his loving wife of one year Priscilla (nee Worthing) Hayn

Elaine Triolo (nee Caracozzo) age 54 of Wayne died at home on Monday July 2, 2007 while surrounded by her loving family.

Elaine was born in Passaic and lived in Clifton before moving to Wayne 22 years ago. She graduated from Clifton High School in 1971 and attended William Paterson University where she received her B.A., M.A., as well as several addition certifications. Elaine always valued education and felt that continuing her schooling would allow her to be truly successful at her career. She was a teacher in the Clifton and Pompton Lakes School systems. Most recently, Elaine worked in the West Milford School District as a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant. She was involved with various learning disability groups, and aided the West Milford District on many special education driven committees. Her teaching career spanned nearly 25 years, patiently helping those with special learning needs. Elaine took great satisfaction from her work, and sincerely felt that she made a difference in children’s and families lives.

Elaine was one to always have a good time, regardless of the circumstances. She was always smiling and laughing. Her sense of humor is something that stood out. Everyone that knew her will never forget the jokes and sarcastic things she used to say. She truly enjoyed life while spending time with her family. Elaine felt that her family was her greatest accomplishment, always instilling those values in her children. Her favorite time of day was dinnertime because it was when Elaine, her husband, and children would sit together to eat, talk, and laugh. Her family was always together for birthdays, holidays, and any special occasions. Elaine’s favorite gathering was certainly Christmas Eve due to how special her mother made it, and then how her brother continued the tradition after their mother had passed. Elaine enjoyed getting out and doing things. One of her favorites was going to dinner and then to see a Broadway show. The Phantom of the Opera was hands down her favorite. Her children recall endless memories of time spent with their mother. In childhood, it was summer days spent at Tom’s Lake. As they grew older it was all the afternoon and weekend shopping trips. Most recently it was the time they spent down the shore with her in Lavallette. Elaine and her husband Joe were married for almost 31 years. They truly were a remarkable couple that loved spending as much time as possible together. They were best friends. Her husband’s favorite memories with his wife include their countless family vacations, Sunday mornings reading the paper and having coffee just the two of them, and of course their long walks on the beach. Elaine’s brother Bob had a special place in his heart for his little sister. He affectionately recalls memories from their childhood when he watched her ride her bike off the ten-foot wall outside their home in Clifton, as well as the time they tried to light a charcoal grill in the rain and he almost set her on fire. As adults, Bob’s fondest memories are of their families getting together and just hanging out.

One of Elaine’s crowning qualities was her baking. She was a wonderful baker who knew what every one’s favorite dessert was. She had the touch, because everything she made came out as well as, or better than a trained chef. Elaine also enjoyed cooking and swapping recipes with her brother or friends.

Elaine loved to travel. There was never a summer where she didn’t plan a trip somewhere with her family. The Jersey Shore was one of her favorite places, specifically Wildwood where she vacationed when she was a child. Later Lavallette became her beach of choice. Venturing outside of New Jersey, Elaine loved to travel to Florida. Her destinations of choice were Vero Beach and Disney World. Elaine’s traveling experience didn’t stop there though. Her favorite trips were the ones that took her out of th
