Albert J. Quint, “Al”, age 58, of Wayne, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017.
Al lived his entire life as a resident of his hometown of Wayne where he graduated from Wayne Hills High School with the Class of 1976. After graduation, Al met Debbie (who he later married), sweeping her off her feet with his long hair and contagious laugh. During this time, Al went to work for Deluxe Corporation in Mountain Lakes. Over the span of a 40-year career, Al’s tremendous work ethic drove him to the role of Team Manager while earning the admiration and respect of his fellow associates. Coupled with the many family members who joined him to work at Deluxe over the years, all of his colleagues grew to be like family to him.
Nothing was more important to Al than his family. His daughters Michelle and Cristina will always cherish growing up and enjoying vacations to warm and sunny destinations including Aruba, the Dominican Republic, and Turks and Caicos as Al and Debbie shared their love of the beach and the Caribbean ocean. With his daughter Michelle, Al shared a love of animals and it seemed that he was always bring her another pet home (with minimal pleads and begging). Happy dogs, Easter ducks, bunnies, exotic birds and fish all lived together at the Quint house. With his daughter Cristina, Al typically reserved Friday nights for quality time over dinner and watching Saved by the Bell or Full House. Sometimes he would even let Cristina win at Chinese Checkers (for fear of what would happen if she didn’t, as Cristina was known for flipping the checkers board when she didn’t win). Cristina also accompanied her father to San Francisco to watch his beloved 49ers play, a past time that he also shared with his nephew Tommy and cousin/best friend Mike Kunzig. Al was one of the San Francisco 49er’s biggest fans. His favorite players were quarterback Steve Young, wide receiver Jerry Rice, and of course quarterback Joe Montana.
Saturday nights were usually spent with his sister Evelyn, nephew Tony and other family members who wanted to get together to enjoy a delicious meal at some of Al’s favorite places to eat, including Stefano’s, Portobello’s, and the Village Inn. Al spent many a weekend by his niece Nicole and husband Andy’s house, spending time wrestling or playing in the pool with his great nephews Cole, AJ, TJ and Niko. He also spent many a football game or family dinner with his best friend and cousin Mike, along with his wife Linda, son Kevin and daughter Erica. Al adored his mother and spent time hanging out with her, watching tv, drinking coffee and enjoying each other’s’ company.
Al loved the outdoors. Whether meticulously attending to his yard, garden, flowers or the self-built Koi pond in his backyard, Al prided himself with having the best landscaping on the block. Al was active, spending time working out and walking. Al enjoyed traveling – namely anywhere warm with a beach and especially his condo in Vero Beach, FL where he was hoping to retire to someday. A good day on the beach consisted of the simple pleasures of life like taking a walk in the warm sand, followed by having a Corona or glass of wine at his favorite Mulligan’s Beach House and Bar. Al also enjoyed visiting his sister Doris and husband Bill at their house at the NJ shore. His mother often stayed at Doris’ house and there were many memories made enjoying their shared great love of warm weather and the shore.
Al cherished good times with good people. You could always count on him for a joke and his natural ability to make people laugh lit up the entire room. And if the jokes didn’t get you, there was no escaping Al’s contagious laughter. To be loved by Al was to be made fun of by Al! He enjoyed pushing buttons, but always came from a place of love. His first major prank may have been welcoming his baby brother Michael into the world by dropping a Match Box Car on his head. Michael shared in Al’s sense of humor and together they made a great comedy act team. Tony and his partner Vito were also known to get in on the action, poking fun and cracking jokes with Al to liven the party. Al also enjoyed the classic humor of television classics like I love Lucy, The Honeymooners and the Andy Griffith show. He loved his oldies music and was known to belt out the lyrics to some of his favorites including “Sugar, Sugar” by The Archies, “Under the Boardwalk” by the Drifters, “Hooked on a Feeling” by Blue Suede, “Peggy Sue” by Buddy Holly, “Rock Me Gently” by Andy Kim and “It’s My Party” by Leslie Gore (especially during Al and Debbie’s New Year’s Eve parties).
Al is survived by his two much-loved daughters: Michelle Quint and fiancé Andrew Franklin of Wayne, and Cristina Quint and her longtime boyfriend Kevin Kowal of Vernon; his former wife and continued friend Debbie Quint of Wayne; his loving mother Evelyn Quint of Wayne; two dear sisters and one dear brother: Doris and husband Bill Daddio of Ortley Beach, Evelyn Celentano of Wayne, and Michael Quint of Wayne; his much-loved niece and nephews (whom he considered his children): Tony and his partner Vito; Nicole and her husband Andy; and Tommy; his much-loved great-nephews: Cole, TJ, AJ, and Niko; his cousin and best friend Michael Kuzig; and other family members. He was predeceased by his dear Father H. Albert Quint in 1998.
