Alexa “Lexi” Piotrowski, age 22, of Wayne passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, July 30, 2022.
Lexi was raised in Wayne, NJ and was one of two children to Robert and Vicki Piotrowski. From as far back as her parents can remember she has always had a deep love for sports. As a young girl she played baseball, soccer, flag football, and above all, her favorite sport, basketball. While a student at Wayne Valley High School, she was a member and the captain of the girls’ varsity basketball team from freshman to senior year, winning the Passaic County Girls Basketball Championship in 2018. This was Wayne’s first championship in forty one years. She was also active in the Italian Club and the Gardening Club while a student at Wayne Valley High. In addition to the girls’ varsity basketball team, she traveled and competed with the Amateur Athletics Union (AAU) Girls Basketball teams through her young adult life playing in countless tournaments and winning a variety of championships. She also played with the “Gym Ratz”, the “Sharp Shooters Basketball”, and “Bulls” basketball teams.
After graduating from Wayne Valley High School in 2018, Lexi enrolled at the University of Tampa where she studied Allied Health Concentration in Medical Sciences. There she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in June of this year. While studying at the University of Tampa, Lexi was a member of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, the PPAA and the Dean’s list during her freshman year in college. Lexi also received her certification as a Licensed Nursing Assistant and was working toward her degree and certification as a Physician’s Assistant.
Lexi recently accepted a position at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, FL as a Licensed Certified Nursing Assistant. Previously, Lexi held positions as a Medical Assistant in Tampa, FL and a Camp Nurse for the YMCA-Montclair in 2021. She truly enjoyed the field she worked in and was sincerely loved and respected by her co-workers and colleagues. Lexi was certified in a variety of different procedures including CPR, BLS, EMR, and CITI. Lexi was also a firm believer in giving back to her community. She participated in a number of different community services. She worked with BayCare Kid Wellness and Safety Center as a CPR volunteer, and the Police Athletics League where she coached the 3rd grade basketball travel team. She also participated in the Relay for Life and Wayne Valley Basketball “Lace It UP” (both fundraisers for cancer victims).
Lexi was an easy-going person who loved spending time with family and friends. She was oftentimes selfless to a fault, always putting others and the needs of others before her own. She enjoyed listening to music, Mac Miller being her favorite musical artist, and treasured spending time with her dad target shooting and Skeet shooting. Lexi had beautiful smile along with an infectious personality that lit up any room she walked into. She was the kind of person that you couldn’t help but want to be around. Lexi was adventurous, fun loving, and “A Ray of Sunshine.” Her greatest passion was clearly her family. Nothing in the world meant more to Lexi than spending time with the people she loved. Lexi was a truly special person who touched the lives of all the people around and will be sorely missed by everyone that knew her.
Lexi lived by the quote “No matter where life takes me, find me with a smile” - Mac Miller
Lexi is survived by her parents Robert and Vicki Piotrowski of Wayne, one sister Olivia Piotrowski of Wayne, her grandmother Helena Piotrowski of Cape Coral, FL, her aunt Kakool Khan of Hackensack, NJ, two uncles; Danny Piotrowski and his fiancé Pat MaCabe of Cape Coral, FL, and Tony Piotrowski and his wife Halina of Cape Coral FL, five cousins; Nadina Minassian of Hackensack, NJ, Christina Piotrowski of Edison, NJ, Samantha Piotrowski of Golden, CO, and Amanda Piotrowski of Cape Coral, FL, Zachary Piotrowski of Colorado.
