Services
Funeral services will be held 8:30 AM on Thursday, August 23, 2007 from the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne then to Our Lady of the Valley RC Church, Wayne where at 9:30 AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Brigadier General William C. Doyle National Veterans Memorial Cemetery, New Egypt with her husband.
Antoinette “Toni” Mitchell (nee Pojkenis) 78, of Butler, formerly of Wayne died Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the Hackensack Medical Center, Hackensack.
She was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY having lived in Wayne for thirty five years before moving to Butler five years ago.
She graduated from Bushwick High School, Brooklyn, NY with the class of 1947.
Toni worked for over twenty-five years at the Macys Department Store, Willowbrook Mall, Wayne before her retirement. In her retirement she assisted at the Skyline Auto Auction, Fairfield on a part-time basis for several years.
She is best described as a quiet and independent with a good natured, sarcastic, sense of humor. Her love of travel is evidenced by the fact that she would go on cruises and trips all the time. Even the picture posted here is of her on a cruise ship.
Beloved wife of fifty-two years to the late Peter E. Mitchell(2002); loving mother of Linda and Jim Barry of Pompton Plains, Lorraine and Richard Hughes of Marlton, Lois Herman of Vernon, William Mitchell of Butler, Anthony and ToniLynn Mitchell of Jonas, PA, Lori Mitchell of Vernon and the late Peter Mitchell(1992); cherished grandmother of sixteen grandchildren (James, Erin, and Brian Barry), (Tara, Amy, Emily, and Deirdre Hughes), (David and Michael Herman), (Amanda and Jennifer Mitchell), (Melanie, Emma, and Anthony Mitchell), and (Ryan and Daniel Oksienik), and one great-grandchild (Emma Vazquez Herman); sister of the late Edward Pojkenis who passed away prior to her birth.
In Lieu of Flowers memorial donations to the American Cancer Society of NJ, 20 Mercer Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601 or the Humane Society of the US, 2100 L Street, NW, Washington DC 20037, would be appreciated.
