Arlene J. Boehner (nee Porter) age 72 of Wayne died Saturday, March 03, 2007 at the Chilton Memorial Hospital in Pompton Plains.

She was born in Newark and had lived her early years in Irvington before moving to Wayne forty-three years ago.

Arlene received her formal education at Irvington High School graduating with the Class of 1952. She then went to Newark State Teachers College and graduated with the Class of 1956 with a Degree in Primary Education.

She started out her work career teaching Kindergarten for the South Plainfield Board of Education and later at the Cedar Grove Board of Education.

Her health was affected at an early age with a polio infection which she persevered with all of her life. She never let her health issues get the best of her and kept a positive attitude. Arlene was quite athletic in her school years and enjoyed track, basketball, fencing, and ballet.

Arlene was Baptized at Holy Trinity Slovak Lutheran Church in Newark. While living in Wayne she was an active member of Saint Timothy’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. At the church she was active in the Women’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Also she was a founding member of Saint Timothy’s Jubilate Bell Ringers Choir and would give musical presentations at church and at local nursing homes.

Her son will always remember her loving concerns for him and her tenacious nature that helped her accomplish many things in life. Arlene was gifted with a wonderful and detailed memory.

Howard and Arlene were married, February 20, 1960 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newark and had forty-two years of “faithful and loving” marriage together until Howard’s passing in July of 2002.

Surviving are her son David H. Boehner of Wayne and one brother Allan Porter of Wichita Falls, Texas.

Those planning and expression of sympathy in Arlene’s memory are asked to consider Saint Timothy’s Lutheran Church.
