Basil Fattell, age 79, of Wayne, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey, Basil was the fourth of five children born to Anthony and Bertha Fattell. During his childhood, the family relocated to North Haledon, where he spent his formative years and developed the strong family values and enduring friendships that would define his life. He graduated from Manchester Regional High School as a member of the Class of 1965.
Following high school, Basil attended William Paterson University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Upon graduation, he quickly began his professional career as a teacher at School No. 9 in Paterson, dedicating approximately five years to educating and inspiring young students.
Always possessing an entrepreneurial spirit, Basil later transitioned from education to the garment industry, founding his own garment distribution company in New York City under the name Jessica McClintock. Through hard work, determination, and business acumen, he successfully operated the company for more than a decade before retiring.
In the early 1990s, Basil fulfilled his dream of retiring to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he enjoyed many happy years. Six years ago, he returned to New Jersey and made his home at Siena Village in Wayne, where he remained close to the family and friends he cherished so deeply.
Basil was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He never turned down the opportunity to attend a game, especially when tickets were generously offered by his beloved nieces and nephews. A longtime member of the New York Athletic Club, he enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships that accompanied his many interests.
Known for his warm heart and friendly nature, Basil had a remarkable ability to make friends wherever he went. In his younger years, he was outgoing and personable, earning the admiration and affection of all who knew him. Though he became more quiet and reserved later in life, his kindness, gentle spirit, and genuine concern for others never changed.
Above all else, Basil treasured time spent with family and friends. Whether gathered around a dinner table, cheering on his favorite teams, sharing stories, or simply enjoying one another's company, those moments brought him his greatest happiness.
Basil will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though his presence will be greatly missed, the memories he created and the love he shared will forever remain in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
Basil is survived by his three sisters; Joyce Favorito of Wayne, NJ, Patricia “Shirley” Sottosanti and her husband James of Wayne. NJ, and Arlene Woloshen and her husband John of Orlando, FL, thirteen nieces and nephews and many grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Bertha Fattell and by his brother Anthony Fattell.
