Bruce "Chip" Raymur Bennett age 56 of Oak Ridge died Thursday, August 9, 2012 with the comfort of his family by his side while on vacation in Aruba.
Chip was the son of Raymur Bennett who died in August of 1999 and Elizabeth Brooks (Kirschbaum) who died in May 2011.He was born in Paterson and raised in the Packanack Lake Section of Wayne. Chip graduated from Wayne Valley High School with the Class of 1973. He attended Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg Pennsylvania.
Chip began a lifelong career in the automobile industry at the gas pumps of the Shell Station located at the intersection of French Hill Road and Alps Road. Always a mechanic at heart he worked for Goodyear Tire in Wayne, Goodyear Tire in Parsippany, ETD on Route 23 in Wayne, STS on Route 46 in Denville, and Passaic Valley Tire in Little Falls. Chip taught an auto mechanic class at the Passaic County Community College and eventually went out on his own establishing Chip Bennett Master Mechanic auto repair business in Oak Ridge.
Chip is best described as a selfless, easy going, personable, compassionate, comical, laid back, stubborn, and often positive personality. He met his wife Susan Minarick while at Wayne Valley High School. Their first date was sitting on the front porch of Chip’s father’s home drinking wine during a lightning storm. They got engaged immediately after a ski trip to Killington, Vermont. Chip and Susan were married on March 8, 1980 at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Wayne. They honeymooned in Aruba where they enjoyed many more vacations during their thirty-two years of loving marriage.
He enjoyed sports and coached many of his children’s soccer, baseball, and softball teams over the years. He personally enjoyed playing volleyball in a recreation league for many years.
Chip was the loving husband of Susan (Minarick) Bennett; devoted father of Michael and his fiancé Ashley, and Lisa and her boyfriend Chris; dear step son of June Bennett of Kinnelon and step brother of her children Barry Reed, Barbara Williams, Bill Reed, Bob Reed and their families.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the family c/o 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne, NJ 07470 would be appreciated.
