Carlo A. Tirri, age 67 of Wayne, died on Friday, December 8, 2017 with his family gathered at his bedside.
Carlo was born in Monteforte Irpino, Italy, and came to the United States when he was six years old. They settled in Paterson and Carlo graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Paterson. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from Ramapo College where he also excelled in their football program. While in college, he worked for Coca Cola and earned enough money to purchase his first investment property. Thus began his career as a real estate investor which eventually enabled him to own property all over the area and even in multiple States. He did everything himself, including all the repairs and maintenance. He went on to earn his plumbers license and was skilled in all the trades. He loved being able to do everything himself and passed many of those skills along to his daughters. He always had a project to work on around the house.
Carlo was truly a devoted father. He spent as much time as possible with his daughters, taking them to Backstreet Boys’ concerts all over the country, MTV’s Total Request Live in Times Square, and many other fun and exciting adventures. He loved to gamble and as the girls got older, he would take them to Atlantic City and Las Vegas with him. He loved having a good time wherever he went, was gregarious and full of life. His family is grateful for all the wonderful memories and they’ll miss him terribly.
Carlo met his wife, Marilyn (nee Rodriguez), at the Cozy Castle Club. Carlo asked her “do you want to see my car?” referring to his new Seville that he was so proud of. At first she kinda laughed at him, but he was charming and they hit it off. Their wedding followed on October 11, 1980 and they celebrated with an Italian honeymoon to Rome and Avelino. They settled in Clifton before moving to Wayne in 1985. Over the years, they’ve enjoyed traveling to the Bahamas, Las Vegas, and countless trips to Atlantic City. Carlo loved to play Blackjack and you would often find him at the higher-stakes tables because he liked to play with people who really understood how the game is played. He recently had a ‘last request’ to visit Atlantic City so his family took him there for the day on November 4th. He got himself a suite at Harrah’s and played cards. After making a few dollars, he cashed out and went for a steak dinner. He liked to “hit’m and run!” as he would say, and he did exactly that.
Carlo is survived by his wife of thirty seven years; Marilyn of Wayne, three daughters; Lauren Tirri and her husband Donald Royce of Lincoln Park, Lisa Plitsas and her husband Alex of Fairfield, CT, and Toni Tirri and her husband Craig Bonagura of Riverdale, NJ, two granddaughters; Isabella and Sophia Plitsas, his two sisters; Rosa LaRosa and her husband Salvatore of Franklin Lakes, and Virginia Imbimbo and her husband Tony of Wayne, and a brother; Jerry Tirri and his wife Marilena of Park Ridge, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Donations in Carlo’s memory would be appreciate to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312, www.diabetes.org
