Carlos Andres

Carlos N. Andres, age 91, of Wayne, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

Born and raised in Cordoba, Argentina, Carlos was the youngest of Carlos and Elena (Lorenzetti) Carlos’ three children.

Carlos met his beautiful wife Lilia when she moved to Cordoba. They married in the catholic church in Cordoba on February 11 and have enjoyed over 60 years in a loving marriage in which they were blessed with their two daughters, Silvia and Maria.

In 1963, Carlos, Lilia and his daughters, who were age five and three at the time, emigrated to the United States in the quest for greater opportunity. They settled initially in a home on 29^th Street in Paterson. In 1976, they moved into a home on Ratzer Road in Wayne and remained there until 1986 when he and Lilia moved across town to their lakefront home where they enjoyed life to the present.

Soon after coming to America, Carlos opened his own business, Andre’s Jewelers on Broadway and Market Street in Paterson. He offered all types of jewelry for his clients and his specialty was watch repair. He moved the business several time including having a store within the Jacob Department Store in Paterson before moving the business to Newark Pompton Turnpike in Pompton Plains. He enjoyed his work tremendously and continued to work into his mid-seventies.

Carlos’ love for fixing things extended way beyond watch repair. He loved to tinker with anything that was mechanical and was known for regularly taking things apart and putting them back together. This was a tremendous benefit to his family who would bring their broken items to him to fix. Carlos loved life in his home on the shore of Pompton Lake where he’d often enjoy cruises on the lake in his pontoon boat. He even built his own dock.

Carolos was a true family man. He loved family get-togethers and was thrilled when the blessing of grandchildren and great-grandchildren came into his life. He loved being their “Abuelito.” Carlos’ presence will be dearly missed. Affectionately flirtatious, he was a real character, a bit on the crazy side and always ready with a joke.

Carlos was the beloved husband of Lilia (nee Dopazo) blessed in marriage for over 60 years. He was the loving father of Silvia Gonzalez and husband Mario of Lebanon, NJ, and the late Maria Alejandra (1994); dear father-in-law of Robert Alejandra and his wife Denise of Sanibel Island, FL;  cherished grandfather (“Abuelito”) of Mario (Jennifer), Gabriela (Javier), Gaston (Emma), Alejandro, Bobby, Gregory (Katie), the late Matthew (2013), Danielle, and Nicole; adoring great-grandfather of: August, Jasper, and Carla; and dear brother of the late Emilio Andres and his wife Leticia of Argentina, and the late Lucia Masini.
