Carmen “Carmen-Nooch” Samuel Maratta, age 92 of Elmwood Park, formerly of Wayne, passed peacefully on Monday, December 6, 2021.
He was born and raised in Paterson to Salvatore and Carmela Maratta who lived in Paterson. He lived in Wayne for fifty seven years before moving to Elmwood Park.
Carmen served his country in the United States Army as a staff sergeant. He was also blessed with being mechanically inclined and can repair most anything. He designed power plants as an electrical design engineer for Burns and Roe Enterprises in Oradell.
He will be lovingly remembered for his quiet and reserved demeanor. He enjoyed fishing at the Jersey Shore and was both a surf fisherman and enjoyed going out on charter boats. One day while fishing off of Cape May he brought in a huge white marlin which he proudly displayed on his wall for many years. He loved all kinds of food but you would see the tough side of Carmen if you brought him his food cold.
Carmen was the loving husband of over fifty years to the late Ann Maratta (d2000); he was the dearly loved longtime partner of Madeline Carini of Elmwood Park; devoted father of Salvatore and his wife Kelly of Montville; he was also the loved brother of the late Carol Brugaletta (d.2020); and her husband John of Wayne.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Bergen County Animal Shelter would be greatly appreciated. Please mail your check payable to “Bergen County Animal Shelter” to 100 United Lane, Teterboro, NJ 07608.
Please include “In Memory of Carmen Maratta”.
