Carmen Peter Cerbone, age 75, of Wayne, passed Tuesday, December 5, 2017.

He was born and raised in Jersey City and when he was sixteen the family moved to North Arlington. Carmen graduated from Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington with the Class of 1960.

After high school he worked in the actuarial department at the Prudential Insurance Company in Newark and joined the National Guard in Newark. He left Prudential and worked at a men’s shop on Ridge Road in North Arlington that soon burned down. After the fire Carmen and a partner opened their own men’s shop in the town called J.Arnold. He would leave the men’s shop and found work with the Pavey Envelope Company in Jersey City and later the Mailwell Company in Jersey City. He would retire from the Prime Envelope Company in Teterboro in 1992.

Carmen met the love of his life, Linda, over forty years ago. They enjoyed each other’s company for over twenty-nine years before they got married in Las Vegas. They went to Vegas with a few friends and decided to “tie the knot” at the Little Chapel of the West. They didn’t tell anyone of their plans and Carmen called his daughter and said “I just got married in Vegas.

Carmen was a proud member of the Fidelians of North Haledon. He would spend hours at the un-official Men’s Coffee Gang located at the Dunkin Donuts on Valley Road in Wayne and the MacDonald’s on Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne. He was a very social guy and just loved to be around people. Carmen was cheerful, warm, loved conversation, and will be loving remembered as a good guy with a sense of humor. He also enjoyed listening to doo-wop music and oldies. He loved Christmas each year as it brought family and friends together. He found great joy in watching the excitement as the kids opened their gifts, and Linda would open something special from him. He always said, “Just get me a card,” because time together was what he wanted.

Carmen’s family has fond memories of annual and sometime twice a year, trips to the Silver Beach Motel in Wildwood Crest. He loved the ocean, was great at bodysurfing, and enjoyed his trips to Curley’s fries, and horseshoes in the sand with annual beach friends. Most of all he loved to see the joy the Jersey Shore trips brought his daughter, and later his grandchildren.

He was the loving husband of Linda (Allen) Cerbone; devoted father of Susan George (his daughter from his previous marriage to Joan) and her husband Robert of Toms River; cherished grandfather of Janelle, Robert, Abigail, and Daniel George. He is predeceased by beloved brother Ernest Cerbone Jr. and by their beloved parents, Ernest and Susan Cerbone.

Memorial donations to the Wayne Memorial First Aid Squad, PO Box 2004, Wayne, NJ 07474 would be appreciated.
