Cecilia Robinson, age 83 of Wayne died peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2014. Cecilia had been a resident of Wayne since 1965 and had retired as a secretary from Passaic General Hospital in 1993.

Born and raised in Kearny, Cecilia graduated from Kearny High School with the class of 1948. It was in high school that she met John Robinson. Although they were acquainted in high school, they didn’t start dating until after John returned from service with the U.S. Army overseas. They fell in love and were married on June 9, 1956 at the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington, located in Kearny. The newlyweds first settled in Kearny for a few years before seeking out a new home in the country. They happened upon Packanack Lake where they bought a house and settled down on Chestnut Drive in 1965. Cecilia became a full-time mom, raising her three children and they were active in the lake community. She was always involved with the Ladies Auxiliary at Fire Company 5, where John was a volunteer firefighter, and the two of them especially enjoyed going to the annual fireman’s conventions. Over the years, she and John traveled a bit on cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean, the Panama Canal and a trip to Bermuda. They especially enjoyed their fiftieth anniversary cruise which included their whole family; about thirteen of them in all!

In her retirement, Cecilia and John joined the Wayne Presbyterian Church and became active with their faith community there. She attended the Bible study every week and on each Thursday morning she would join a group of her church friends for breakfast at the Wayne Hills Diner. Her church friends were all very dear to her and she cherished their time together.

Cecilia was also an avid reader and a big fan of “Jeopardy.” It was well known among her family that they were never to call her on the phone between 7:00 PM – 7:30 PM. Later, her grandchildren became her light and her joy. They each meant the world to her and she could want for nothing more than time with them. Just four weeks ago, she went to the circus with all of them. Surely they will miss her dearly, but the memories of their many times together, and her deep love for each of them, will always be in their hearts.

Cecilia is survived by her daughter Margaret “Peggy” Ahlen and her husband Steve of Wayne, and by her son Edward Robinson and his wife Judy of Wayne, and by her daughter in law; Catherine Robinson of Carrollton, GA, four grandchildren; Matthew and Christopher Ahlen, and Kevin and Katelyn Robinson of Wayne. Sadly, Cecilia was predeceased by her son Andrew in 2009 and by her beloved husband John in 2008.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Cecilia’s memory would be greatly appreciated to the Wayne Presbyterian Church, 1200 Alps Rd, Wayne, NJ 07470.
