In the interest of safety, all visitors will be required to wear a mask at the funeral home. Memorial visiting will be on Monday, January 3, 2022, from 4-7 PM at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne. A funeral service will be held at 7 PM at the funeral home, immediately following the visiting hours.
Cynthia K. Kovalycsik (nee Amos), age 68 of Wayne, died on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
Cindy grew up in Garfield. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1971. While attending Garfield High School, she was a cheerleader, competed on the swim team and played flute in the band. Cindy went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Montclair State College and a subsequent Master’s Degree in Education from William Paterson College.
It was during high school in Garfield that she met Rich Kovalycsik, her high school sweetheart. They were married in 1975 and honeymooned at Paradise Island in the Bahamas. They moved to Wayne in 1977 to raise their family. They enjoyed over thirty-four years of loving and caring marriage before Rich passed away in 2010.
Cindy spent her entire career as an elementary teacher in the Garfield school system. She had been a speech pathologist, a 3rd and 4th grade teacher and more recently was teaching computer technology. She enjoyed teaching, loved her students and was excellent at running a classroom. She retired in 2011.
Cindy was an excellent cook and baker. She was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, quilting, gardening and tending to her plants. In her retirement, Cindy enjoyed traveling. She especially loved visiting family in Upper Greenwood Lake and relaxing at Point Pleasant Beach. Cindy was a loving pet owner and adored the dogs that she had over the years.
Cindy is survived by her two children; Beth Kovalycsik of Port Chester, NY, and Nick Kovalycsik and his wife Stacy of Califon, NJ, two grandchildren; Lucy and Annie Kovalycsik, three siblings; Cheryl Migliore and her husband Ray of Flemington, NJ, Richard Amos, Jr. and his wife Bindu of Rockaway, NJ, and Kevin Amos and his wife Rosemarie of Garfield, NJ.
