Dennis Jacobson, age 64, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2023 while receiving the loving care of his family.
Dennis was born in Paterson, NJ and was one of six children to Donald and Rosella Jacobson. When Dennis was a young boy, his family moved to Wyckoff where he spent his formative years. He attended Ramapo High School where he took a great interest in automotive mechanics. Following his graduation from high school with the class of 1976, he first worked for Homestead Roofing, and quickly found work at Hawthorne Chevrolet as an auto mechanic. After three or four years, he opened his own Mobile Gas Station in Hawthorne which he owned and operated for a couple of years. Dennis then decided to close up his shop and accepted a position at JB Hunt where he was employed as a Truck Driver and Safety Officer. Taking this position relocated Dennis to Arkansas, and he spent the next sixteen years of his career there. After leaving JB Hunt, Dennis took a job at Home Depot in Arkansas, and ran his own business, DJ Construction. In 2018, he decided to move back to New Jersey.
Moving back to Southern New Jersey was not a hard decision to make for Dennis as his favorite place in the world to be was in or on the water. Dennis was an avid fisherman, and treasured crabbing at the Jersey Shore. He was a devoted Arkansas Razor Back fan as well as a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan. Dennis also cherished his rescued dog “Gunner” that passed away some time ago. After Gunner’s passing, Dennis saved another dog, “Rosie,” however, unbeknownst to Dennis, the dog was pregnant and gave birth to a single puppy which Dennis in turn gave to his girlfriend’s son.
Dennis had the reputation of being a lady’s man throughout most of his life, being able to smile and strike up a conversation. He loved engaging with people and making friends wherever he went. Dennis was the kind of person that was able to talk to anyone about anything. After moving the Jersey Shore, Dennis always felt like he was on vacation. The most enjoyable times of his life were spent at his home in Manahawkin, enjoying quiet times with the younger children in his family, and his girlfriend’s grandsons, watching them all grow up way too fast.
Dennis was a kind man with a warm heart. He had a wonderful sense of humor and had the gift of bringing smiles to the faces of the people around him. Those who knew Dennis well, knew that his greatest passion in life was the love of his family. Nothing in the world meant more to Dennis that spending time with his brothers, his sister, and their children. Dennis was a truly special person who touched the lives of many people and will be sorely missed by his family and friends alike.
Dennis is survived by his brothers; Donald of Lincoln Park, NJ, Richard and his wife Dianne of North Haledon, NJ, his sister Diane Tyrrell and her husband Steve of Barnegat, NJ, his two brothers Russell and his wife Carol of Port Jervis, NY, and Robert and his wife Michelle of Hawthorne, NJ, five nephews; Donny, Ryan, Kyle, Corey, and Michael, five nieces; Shelby, Lauren, Lexi, Patty, and Jessie, his Uncle Eugene, and Aunts Shirley and Elaine, many cousins, great nieces, nephews, and loving extended family. He is also survived by his significant other, Rosanne Warner, and her loving family. He was predeceased by his parents, and sister in laws; Ruthe and Patricia.
