Diana L. Rizzo, 83, of Pompton Plains, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, with her loving family by her side.

Diana was born to Amelia and Antonio Nicoletti and was the youngest of four children. She graduated from Wayne High School in Wayne with the Class of 1961. Fun, vivacious, and very popular, Diana was known by the nicknames “Nick” and “Nickie” and had many close friends. She also participated as a flag twirler.

After graduating from beauty school, Diana worked as a hairdresser for 30 years. She began her career in local salons, where she honed her skills. Later, after becoming a mother, she opened a salon in her home—an unusual and entrepreneurial choice in the 1970s. Diana worked hard to be a devoted mother while balancing her career as a hairdresser.

After her children were grown, Diana put down her comb and scissors and embraced a new career. She trained as an administrative assistant and, after working several temporary positions, found her dream job as the administrative assistant to the club manager at Preakness Hills Country Club in Wayne.

Diana met the love of her life, Frank, in high school. They married in December 1962 at St. Mary’s Church in Pompton Lakes and soon began their life together in Pompton Plains. Diana was the loving and devoted wife of the late Frank Rizzo, to whom she was married for 37 years. Frank passed away in 1999.

Diana was an active and devoted member of the Our Lady of Good Counsel school community in Pompton Plains. She attended school functions and supported the school in many ways by generously giving her time. Her children attended Our Lady of Good Counsel.

She was the beloved mother of Ellany Kincross of Pompton Plains and Gina Kooken and her husband, Dennis, of Oak Ridge, New Jersey. She was “Grammy” to Jessica Stefanic and a great-grandmother to Liberty Stefanic.

Diana was predeceased by Frank Nicoletti, James Nicoletti, and Jessie Bufardeci, all of Wayne, New Jersey. She will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, vivacious spirit, and devotion to her family, as well as for the welcoming salon she created in her home. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity Diana generously supported with monthly donations.
