Domenick Michael Carofine, a man of deep kindness, gentle wit, and unwavering dedication to his family and community, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at the age of 93.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey, on June 25, 1933, Domenick later moved to Wayne, New Jersey, where he was a proud member of the community and a resident for 55 years, spanning from 1964 until 2019. In 2019, he moved to the Cedar Crest Senior Living community in Pompton Plains, where he spent his final years enjoying their warm fellowship.
Domenick honorably served his country in the United States Army in the period following the Korean War, spending meaningful time stationed in both Korea and Japan. Upon returning to civilian life, he brought that same sense of duty to his career. He dedicated over 30 years to the Hoffmann-La Roche pharmaceutical company in Nutley, working in the safety department and proudly serving on the company’s fire brigade until his retirement.
A man of enduring faith, Domenick was a devoted member of the Preakness Reformed Church since 1978. He was also an avid golfer who loved spending clear days out on the green.
To those in town, Domenick was a famously familiar face at the Dunkin ’Donuts on Valley Road in Wayne. For decades, he met there daily with a close-knit group of friends to share military stories, camaraderie, and plenty of laughter. The group’s legendary bond and daily ritual were beautifully featured in a 2016 article in The Bergen Record. Domenick was quite the joke-teller, always ready to brighten someone’s day with a quick wit and a warm smile. Above all, he was a gentle, kind soul, a wonderful husband, and an exceptional father.
Domenick was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene Carofine (née Bajo), who passed away in 2017.
He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children and grandchildren: his daughter Donna McKeon and her husband James, along with grandsons James and Patrick; and his son Domenick Carofine and his wife Danielle, along with grandchildren Giana, Claudia (and her fiancé Tyler), Domenick, and Daniella. He will be deeply missed by his family, his lifelong friends, and all who had the pleasure of sharing a laugh with him.
