Doreen Basu

Doreen Basu (nee Stalter) age 62 of Wayne passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday May 30, 2019 while receiving the loving care of her family.

Doreen was born and raised in Paterson and lived there until moving to Wayne in 2006. She was one of three children to Michael Casale and Joan Stalter. Doreen attended John F. Kennedy High School in Paterson and graduated with the class of 1976.  She married Shamar “Martin” Basu on January 10, 1976.

Doreen and Martin welcomed the birth of their first daughter, Christina, shortly thereafter.  Doreen remained a homemaker for a couple of years, then offered a position at Haband Corporation in Prospect Park where she worked for the next ten years. In 1987, Doreen and Martin welcomed their second daughter, Danielle, and again Doreen took some time away from work to be with her new baby. After a time, Doreen decided to get back into the workplace and found employment at several places over the years including Reckitt Benckiser, Pathmark, Gary’s Wine and Quick Chek. Following her graduation at Christine Valmy in Parsippany, Doreen went to work as a Nail Technician and Assistant at her daughter Christina’s company, “Christina by design”. Doreen continued to work there until recently when her illness forced her to stop.

Doreen was quite talented at arts and crafts and loved just about anything as far as home décor was concerned. Doreen took great pride in creating her own décor and decorating her house. She was an excellent baker and especially enjoyed cake decorating. Doreen also enjoyed listening to music, some of her favorite artists being The Beatles and Pink Floyd. Doreen and her family enjoyed yearly camping vacations throughout the years. She was a private person, mild-mannered and had a great sense of humor!  Doreen’s greatest passion was by far her family; nothing meant more than spending time with and providing for her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who touched the lives of many people and will be sorely missed by her family and friends alike.

Doreen is survived by her husband Martin Basu of Little Falls, her two daughters, Christina Ortiz and her husband Rogger of Wayne, and Danielle Basu of Paterson; two grandchildren, RJ Ortiz of Wayne and Nino Ortiz of Wayne; one sister-in-law Georgeann Mohr of Paterson; one niece Tina White of Paterson; one grandniece Mya Morales of Paterson and a nephew Michael White. Doreen was predeceased by her two brothers Michael Stalter and Thomas Stalter.
