Dorothy "Jackie" Cardaci (nee Caltigerone)of Wayne on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at Home. Her passing was quiet and peaceful while receiving the loving care of her family.
She was born in Garfield and had lived through her formative years in Passaic later living in Clifton before moving to Wayne forty-three years ago.
Dorothy received her formal education at Passaic Grade School No. 7.
Dorothy previously worked for General Electric in the 1950’s and later she was self employed and owned JoMar Clothing Store in Paterson and previously owned Clifton Liquors in Clifton.
She was a parishioner of The Prince of Peace RC Chapel in Haledon.
She leaves her family with many cherished memories of a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. A loving mother, caring grandmother, always protective, always the life of the party, and energetic optimist, who loved and lived life to it’s fullest. You could accurately say that she had a zest for living. She was always the life of the party who’s optimism had no end.
Family was her life’s endeavor. Mom was a wonderful cook and used her culinary skills to gather her family together for special Sunday dinners and holiday celebrations. Her children recall that Mom’s restaurant was open twenty-four hours every day.
Perhaps the arrival of grandchildren and great grandchildren touched Dorothy’s innermost heart. She adored each of them and loved them to pieces.
She was a loving, caring and protective wife. John and Dorothy had fifty-one years of “affectionate” marriage together.
Surviving are her loving husband John Cardaci Sr.; one son John Cardaci Jr. and his wife Roberta of Holmdel; three daughters Michele LaPlaca and her husband Jack of West Milford, Doreen Steinberg and her husband Stuart of Wayne and Mary Landy and her husband Tony of Wayne; two sisters Marion Kovalincik of Garfield and Pauline DeMassi of Upper Montclair; thirteen grandchildren Joseph and Jackie LaPlaca, James and Jackie Barnhill, Michele Walsh, Karen Lewis, Adam Steinberg, Taylor and Toni-Marie Landy, Michael, Kyle, Victoria and John Cardaci III; ten great grandchildren.
Those planning an expression of sympathy in Dorothy’s memory are asked to consider the American Cancer Society, 20 Mercer Street Hackensack, NJ 07601.
