A Memorial service will be held 1 PM on Friday, December 22, 2017 at the Cedar Crest Chapel, 1 Cedar Crest Drive, Pompton Plains.
Dorothy R. Bradshaw, age 87, of Cedar Crest Village in Pompton Plains, passed peacefully on Sunday, December 3, 2017.
She was born in Queens, New York and raised at the family home on Park Avenue in North Bergen. At Union Hill High School, along with being voted Best Dressed in the Class of 1948, she was also the class treasurer. After high school, Dorothy worked as a public relations secretary at Hill & Knowlton located in the Empire State Building. She enjoyed working in New York very much. After having children, Dorothy was a full-time mother and was very busy with three boys and a girl. As her children got older, she went back to work as a secretary for Lehn & Fink in Montvale.
Soon after high school, Dorothy met her soul mate, John “Leo" Bradshaw. They would often meet friends at the Grotheer Ice Cream Parlor in North Bergen. Dorothy and Leo fell in love and married at Saint Joseph of the Palisades Church in West New York, New Jersey on October 28, 1950 and honeymooned in the Poconos. Married for fifty-five years, Dorothy and Leo, always had a very loving and devoted relationship. They both adored the beach, whether at the Jersey Shore or Naples, Florida.
Dorothy was a devoted Catholic, attending mass every week either at the church or watching on television. Her faith stayed strong throughout her life. Dorothy enjoyed entertaining friends and family, playing card games, and recently, became an avid golf fan. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply and treasured holiday and family get togethers.
Dorothy was the loving wife of the late John “Leo” Bradshaw (2005); devoted mother of Tom Bradshaw and his wife Kathleen of Mendham, the late Peter Bradshaw (1998), Jack Bradshaw of Tinton Falls, and Karen Finneran and her husband John of Mahwah; cherished grandmother of Alexis Bradshaw, Christina Bradshaw, Taylor Bradshaw, Elizabeth Finneran, Katherine Finneran, and Conor Finneran; dear sister of the late Jack Dalton and the late Lillian Genrich.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the American Lung Association would be greatly appreciated.
