Dorothy C Vander Pyl, Age 76 of Wayne passed peacefully and painlessly on July 22 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ.
Dorothy was born to Orie & Dorothy Van Der Vliet of Wayne and Graduated from Wayne Valley High School in Wayne class of 1965. She studied at Capri Cosmetology Learning Center in Clifton and received her beautician license. Her first job was with James & John Hair Dresser Salon in Clifton where she met Paulette Donkersloot a future lifetime friend. After 25 years as a beautician, she got a job with Plainview Growers in Pompton Plans as a Horticulturist. There, she was in charge of 15 women planting nursery flowers and bringing the company into the 21st century with computer-aided planting. At that time she met Joan Harriot another lifetime friend.
Dottie met Ken at Stewart’s car shop in Paramus in the summer of 1966. We began dating, got engaged during the Christmas of 66, and married on October 7, 1967. We have spent almost 56 years together with many wonderful memories. We have been on 15 tours together across the United States, Alaska, Hawaii, South America, and Canada.
Dottie was a very talented person she was a dressmaker making all of our daughter's clothes and Halloween costumes as she grew up. She also made all the curtains and drapes for the house saving me thousands of dollars. She loved flowers, especially from her garden. She would make beautiful flower arrangements for the house and her friends.
The windows of our house would be decorated for every season and holiday with different scenes, especially on Halloween with every window showing skeletons, bats, and haunted house scenes all handmade. At Christmas, she would make beautiful grave covers for her parents & mine.
Dottie was loving, caring, and devoted to her daughter Debra and especially her grandsons TJ and David.
I’ve been an avid fly fisherman for over 70 years, since we were married Dottie would come with me and read a book. I decided to teach her how to fly fish and after 20 years she became an excellent caster. We have fished all the trout streams in New Jersey as well as many streams in the Cats-kills, Adirondacks, Poconos, Connecticut, and Vermont.
Dottie is survived by her sister Joan Woolley of Sandy, Utah, and her brother Larry Van Der Vliet of Londonderry, Vermont.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to St Judes Children’s Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
