Funeral service will be held 9:30 AM on Saturday, December 30, 2006 from the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne then to Saint Simons RC Church, Green Pond where an 11:00 AM Funeral Mass will be offered.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, December 29, 2006 from 2-4, 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
E. Wallace Darling “Wally” age 91 of Green Pond died Thursday, December 28, 2006 at home.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in Garfield, Teaneck and Tenafly before moving to Green Pond thirty years ago.
Mr. Darling graduated from John Adams High School, Brooklyn, NY with the class of 1933. He also attended classes at Columbia University and New York University both in New York City. He was an Air Raid Warden during WWII, the first president of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the Woodrow Wilson School #5, Garfield, President of the International Carpet Cleaning Association, Director and Commodore of the Green Pond Yacht Club, Green Pond, Chairman of the Green Pond Environmental Foundation, Green Pond, on the board of directors of the Green Pond Corporation, Green Pond and a member of the Saint Simons RC Church, Green Pond finance committee.
He was the president and chairman of the Renotex Corporation, New York City, a commercial carpet and upholstery cleaning firm, for thirty-one years before his retirement in 1980.
Wally was charming, witty and had an amazing zest for life. Most of all he will be remembered for loving his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and taking a keen interest in everything they did.
Beloved husband of sixty-six years to Lottie (nee Shefcik) Darling; loving father of Karen Theodore of North Caldwell, Donna Mead and her husband Robert of Hamden, CT; one son Gary Darling and his wife Jane of Green Pond; much loved brother of Roy Darling and his wife Diane of Mauldin, SC, Russell Darling and his wife Margaret of Elkins, WV, O. Robert Darling of Hasbrouck Heights and the late Clifford Darling (1994); cherished grandfather of Susan Dieffenbach and her husband Michael of Green Pond, Debra Darling of Tenafly, Eric Darling of Jersey City, Tara Joffe and her husband Mark of Lakewood, CO, Denise Studebaker and her husband Jon of Plymouth, MA and three great-granddaughters Megan, Sabrina and Ella Studebaker all of Plymouth, MA.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the St. Simon’s Catholic Church, 1010 Green Pond Road, Green Pond, NJ 07435 or the Greenpond Environmental Foundation, PO Box 648, Newfoundland, NJ 07435 or the St. Barnabas Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 95 Old Short Hills Road, West Orange, NJ 07052 would be appreciated.
