Earl T. Plavier age 60 of Wayne died suddenly at home on Wednesday, October 4, 2006.
He was born and raised in Paterson having moved to Wayne twenty-three years ago.
Earl was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and served in an artillery division.
Mr. Plavier was the Tour 1-3rd Battalion Chief for the City of Paterson where he has been a firefighter for the past thirty-seven years. Earl Plavier was appointed to the Paterson Fire Department on August 1, 1968. On October 1, 1977 he was promoted the rank of Captain. Continuing his ascent through the ranks he was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief on September 21, 1991. His final assignment was as Battalion 3 on Tour 1. Battalion Chief Plavier was the longest serving active duty member of the Paterson Fire Department with 36 years of dedicated service. He will be sorely missed by his brother and sister firefighters.
Prior to being appointed to the Paterson Fire Department he served in the Civil Defense Volunteer Firefighter in the City of Paterson. He was a member of the Firemen's Mutual Benevolent Association, Local 2 of Paterson. Earl loved his work as a Paterson Fireman and was a veritable historian of the department. He even saved the Fire Log Books from the 1800’s when they were slated to be discarded.
Earl will be remembered by his family as a man who loved his grandchildren, good food, World War II history and his work.
Beloved fiancé of Elizabeth Cooke of Bloomingdale; devoted father of John P. Plavier and his wife Dina of Oakland, Earl R. Plavier of Totowa and Carrie Plavier-Chuichuiolo of Wayne; loved brother of Robert W. Plavier of Wayne and cherished grandfather of Gianna Pilar Plavier and Alissandra Jonne Chiuchiolo. He also loved and was devoted to his step-daughters Marie Cooke of Oklahoma, Alexa Romeo of Elmwood Park and Melissa Cooke of West Milford; and his step-grandchildren Arianna and Anthony Romeo.
He was predeceased by his brother Peter R. Plavier in 2005.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the New Jersey Firemen's Home, 565 Lathrop Avenue, Boonton, NJ 07005 would be appreciated.
