Eleanor Ward (nee Obarski) age 79 of Riverdale died Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at home. She died quietly and peacefully while receiving the loving care of her family who where at her bedside.
She was born in Brooklyn, New York and had lived in the Packanack Lake area of Wayne for forty-eight years before moving to Riverdale five years ago.
She was a parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary RC Church in Wayne.
Eleanor was a member of the Packanack Lake Golf Club and the Packanack Lake Bridge Club. She had a long time interest in fine art and was active with the Ridgewood Art Appreciation Organization.
She leaves her family with many fond memories of a loving and dedicated mother who was always there for her children and grandchildren. Mom always made Sundays and Holidays special with her cooking and hospitality. At one point when her children where young she was the Packanack Girl Scout Leader.
Eleanor loved to travel and she spent much time in Europe and many other locations in the world. She particularly enjoyed the fine arts that so richly grace the European countries.
Francis and Eleanor Ward had fifty years of “loving marriage” before Francis’s passing in February of 2001.
Surviving are one daughter Ellyn Ward and her husband Peter Holm of Riverdale; one son Conan Ward and his wife Irene of Glen Ridge; two grandchildren Jesse and Jamie Holm.
Her brother Stanley Obarski predeceased her in 2005.
Those planning an expression of sympathy, in Eleanor’s memory, are asked to consider the Passaic Valley Hospice, 783 N. Riverview Drive, Totowa, NJ 07512.
Eleanor Ward’s family would like to express a deep appreciation for the kind and thoughtful services provided by the Passaic Valley Hospice in the care their mother. In particular the kind professionalism and personal care that was given by the hospice registered nurse Lynn Syslo as well as the hospice chaplain Reverend Al Jousset. The Ward family will be eternally grateful for everything they did for their mother and our family.
