Florence E. Lyons (nee Esposito) age 98 of Port Saint Lucie, Florida died Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at the Parkway Health and Rehabilitation Center in Stuart, Florida. She died quietly and peacefully receiving the dedicated care of the staff at Parkway Health Care Center.
Her daughter Frances, niece Rita Bozeat and her good friend Jane Howard spent much time at the nursing home taking care of Florence’s needs and giving her much support and love. The family will always be grateful for all that their sister did for mom as well as the wonderful support and love shown by Jane Howard and Rita Bozart in their mother’s care.
She was born in Brooklyn, New York and had lived in Totowa Boro and West Paterson before moving to Port Saint Lucie twelve years ago.
She was employed by the New York Telephone Company as a telephone operator.
Florence was formerly a parishioner of Saint James RC Church in Totowa.
Her family will always remember her as a wonderful loving Mother.
A great tragedy struck the family in 1955 when unexpectedly Florence’s husband of twenty years, Frank died in his sleep. Florence pulled the family together in love and dedication and raised her daughters by herself.
Frank owned Lyons Piano Company in Paterson which served to provide coin operated JukeBoxes for music in local eateries and hotels. At his passing Charles Cornell, a brother in law helped the family maintain the family enterprise which was a great help to Florence who was left alone to raise her three daughters. Her children recall with joy that one of their first jobs was counting the coins from the juke boxes.
Florence had a wonderful gift of personality that made others admire her. Within the family she was called “Grandma Flossie” and her family adored her. She held the love of family above all. In her younger years along with taking care of three daughters alone she also cared for, in her home, her mother and father in law. In her later years she was advised by her doctor to find work to channel her energies and she went to work for a retailer on Route 46 in Totowa known as Great Eastern Mills where she worked for many years before her retirement.
Still later in life she went to live with her daughter Frances Lyons in Port Saint Lucie, Florida and mother and daughter spent those years helping and supporting each other with life’s adventures.
She was a member of the Port Saint Lucie Seniors.
Surviving her are three daughters Charlotte Marino and her husband Vincent of Franklin Lakes, Rose Salameno and her husband Daniel of Pompton Lakes and Frances Lyons of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; nine grandchildren Linda Dooney, Karen Klayman, Steven Marino, Daniel Jr., Frank and Paul Salameno, Kelly Cook, Scott, Sean and Terri Donnelly; seventeen Great Grandchildren Marina and Caroline Dooney, Sage Donnelly, Jarrod, Tyler and Nicole Klayman, Kathryn, Sarah, Patrick and Nicholas Marino,Wyatt and Dustin Cook, Barrett, Ty, Jason and Amanda Salameno.
