Genevieve A. Leshik

July 18, 1937 – October 30, 2026

Genevieve Leshik, 89, formerly of Bayonne, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family in Wayne, New Jersey, where she spent her final years. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished grandmother, and a dear friend. Above all, she was the heart of her family — a woman whose life was defined by unconditional love, quiet sacrifices, fierce loyalty, and an extraordinary devotion to the people she held close.

Born in 1937, Genevieve was the only child of Antoni and Genevieve Bilicki and a proud graduate of Bayonne High School. In 1963, she married the love of her life, John S. Leshik. Together, they began a beautiful journey that would span 55 years, building a life filled with love, commitment, countless memories, and the kind of partnership that only deepens with time. Their love was the foundation of their family, and the life they built together was her greatest treasure.

Genevieve and John both worked for Westinghouse Elevator Company until she made the decision to leave her career to devote herself to raising their only son, John A. Leshik. Being a mother was never simply a role she filled; it was the center of her world. She embraced every part of motherhood with her whole heart, becoming an ever-present part of her son's childhood. Whether volunteering with the PTO, being a devoted Scout mom, or later serving as a librarian and secretary at his elementary school, she was always there — giving her time, her energy, and her love. She never needed recognition for the things she did. Being there for her family was reward enough.

After retirement, Genevieve and John moved from Bayonne to Toms River, New Jersey, where they enjoyed another chapter of life together. In her later years, Genevieve moved to Wayne, New Jersey, to be closer to her family. It was there that she spent her final years, surrounded by the people who meant more to her than anything in the world.

If there was one thing that truly defined Genevieve, it was her heart for others. Caring for people wasn't just something she did — it was who she was. She was the person you could count on, the one who showed up, the one who worried, the one who remembered, and the one who would do whatever was needed for the people she loved. Her loyalty ran deep, her will was strong, and her love was unconditional. She had a way of putting everyone else's needs before her own, often without a second thought. She gave so much of herself throughout her life, and she never kept score. To Genevieve, loving someone meant being there for them, through everything.

While her love for her family was immeasurable, her grandsons, Evan and Zachary Leshik, held an especially precious place in her heart. They were among her greatest joys and a source of endless pride and happiness. She played an extraordinary role in helping her son John and daughter-in-law Janina raise their boys, giving them not only her time and support, but a grandmother's love that could never be replaced. The bond she shared with Evan and Zachary was truly special — so meaningful and so deeply rooted that both chose to honor her with tattoos, a permanent reminder that their grandmother would always be a part of them. It is a beautiful reflection of the love they shared and a reminder that the bonds we create in this life do not end when someone is gone.

As the years passed, Genevieve faced life's challenges with the same strength, determination, and stubborn spirit that had carried her through so much. For a woman who had spent a lifetime taking care of everyone else, learning to accept care herself was never easy. She had always been the giver, the person others leaned on. But even during the more difficult moments, she was never without the love and devotion of her family, who remained by her side.

In her final days, Genevieve was surrounded by the very people she had spent a lifetime loving, protecting, and caring for. There is something deeply comforting in knowing that she was not alone, that she felt the presence of her family, and that the love she had so freely given throughout her life was returned to her when she needed it most. After a lifetime of putting others first, she was able to rest in the warmth of the family she had built.

Genevieve was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, John S. Leshik, and her parents, Genevieve and Antoni Bilicki. She leaves behind her devoted son, John A. Leshik; her loving daughter-in-law, Janina Leshik; and her cherished grandsons, Evan and Zachary Leshik, along with extended family and dear friends whose lives were made better simply because she was a part of them.

It is difficult to put a lifetime of love into words, and even harder to say goodbye to someone whose presence has been woven into so many of life's memories. Genevieve leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured in years, accomplishments, or possessions. It lives on in the family she raised, the sacrifices she made, the lifelong friendships she nurtured, the countless ways she helped others, and the love she gave without ever asking for anything in return.

She will be remembered for her strength, her strong will, her generous heart, her unwavering loyalty, and, most of all, the way she loved her family. Her hands may no longer be here to help, her voice may no longer be here to comfort, and her presence will be deeply missed in all the little moments that once seemed so ordinary. But the love she gave will remain — in the memories we hold, in the lessons she taught, and in the generations who will carry a part of her forward.

A mother's love never truly leaves us. It becomes part of who we are, carried in our hearts long after we can no longer hold her hand.

May she finally rest peacefully, free from pain, worry, and the burdens she carried, reunited at last with her beloved John. We find comfort in imagining them together again, as they should be.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Never, ever forgotten.
