Friends may visit with the family at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne, on Friday, August 3, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, August 4, 2012 from the funeral home, then to St. Anne’s RC Church, Fair Lawn, NJ where at 11:30 AM a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will follow at the George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus.
Gloria J. Frigo (nee Favaro), age 84 of Wayne and formerly of Cliffside Park, died on Wednesday, August 1, 2012. Her family was at her bedside.
Gloria was born in Fairview, NJ and grew up in Fort Lee. In 1957, at a local dance, she met Vladimiro Frigo. The two of them hit it off right from the start and they were married in 1958. They first settled in Fort Lee before moving to Cliffside Park, where they raised their family. Gloria and Vlad enjoyed forty one years together of a very loving marriage. They worked hard at their marriage and set a great example for their children. They were wonderful parents and had been completely devoted to their family throughout their lives. Their family photo albums sum it up rather well; Gloria and Vlad are either hugging, or kissing, or dancing in just about every photo. Vlad passed in 1999 and shortly thereafter Gloria moved to Wayne to live with her daughter.
Gloria was an excellent cook. Every Sunday she made her sauce and would package it up to give out to everyone in her family. If you were feeling sick, she would make you soup and if you were lucky it would be her delicious minestrone. She passed some of these traditions down to her grandchildren too. If she wasn’t cooking, she was probably cleaning. Keeping an immaculately clean house was her pride and joy. Gloria’s children recall summer vacation at their beach house, where their mother was a bit of a sun worshiper. She loved hanging out with her family and soaking up the sun’s rays. Then, at 3 o’clock every day, she would have her gin and tonic before beginning to cook dinner.
She was a fun woman to be around, always having fun. She was a wonderful mother and an even better grandmother – “Nonna” to her four grandchildren. They will all miss her dearly.
Gloria is survived by her two daughters; Gina Garcia and her husband Jay of Fair Lawn, NJ, and Leanna Van Steenburg and her husband Wayne of Wayne, four grandchildren; Christina Hutt of Las Vegas, Justin Garcia of Fair Lawn, Ali Garcia of Fair Lawn, and Nicole Barrows of South Windsor, Connecticut, and two great-grandchildren; Joshua and Anthony Barrows of Connecticut. She was predeceased by her daughter Gloria Jean Hutt in 2009, and by her husband Vladimiro in 1999.
