Services

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 9 AM at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Friday evening from 7-9 PM.

Interment will be in Fair View Cemetery in Westfield.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 2 PM at the Trinity Baptist Church, 160 Changebridge Road, Montville.

Heather H. “Bonnie” Ruhl (nee Chaplin) age 72 of Montville died Thursday, October 26, 2006 at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in Summit for thirty years before moving to Montville twelve years ago.

Mrs. Ruhl received her formal education at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, New York where she received a Registered Nurse Certification with the Class of 1954. She was employed at Methodist Hospital, Brooklyn in the Labor and Delivery department until she married Forster Ruhl in 1955.

She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, Montville

Surviving are two daughters Heather Smith and her husband Donald of Montville and Erin-Elise Ruhl of Tucson, Arizona; one son Forster Ruhl, Jr. and his wife Livie of Como Mississippi; one sister Holly Martens of Anaheim, California; eight grandchildren Laurie Maclean, Calvin Forster, Katharine Elinor Smith, Stephen Elliot, Jonathan Davis, Margaret Ellen, Forster G. III “Buck”, and Livie Elise Ruhl.

Forster and Heather had a loving and understanding marriage together for thirty-five years before Forster’s passing in 1990.

Bonnie’s hobbies included Oil Painting and singing. She started her love of singing in her high school days and sang with the “All City Choral Group at Carnegie Hall in New York City. She continued her singing with the Trinity Church Choral Group as well as at home where she had her own organ and would lead her family and friends in sessions of harmonizing. She was a loyal supporter of Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Metropolitan Opera.

She loved to relate stories to her family about her youth. She told of swimming clear across the Long Island Sound dodging ferry boats and other watercraft.

Her family will always hold special memories of extended four to eight week long vacations to New Smyrna Beach, Florida where the family would spend time on the beach and enjoy picnicking and swimming. She also loved the Christmas season and would go out of her way to make things very special in her home and for her family and friends.

Mrs. Ruhl was a wonderful cook and especially memorable to her family was her turkey gravy. She also extended her cooking talent to help others and would prepare hot meals for seminary students at church. She expressed her generous and kindly Christian endeavors by food shopping for people and families in need.
