Herbert C. Lees age 98 of Wayne died peacefully on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Milford Manor, West Milford.
He was born in Paterson and lived in Hawthorne before moving to Wayne over sixty years ago.
Mr. Lees was the proprietor of Lees Brothers Servcie Station located at the intersection of Hamburg Turnpike and Ratzer Road in Wayne for fifteen years before working for the Inmont Chemical Company, Wagaraw Road, Hawthorne before retiring in 1973.
Herbert was a WWII Veteran who served with the Army Air Corps Squadron A, 1075th Air Force Base Unit and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the WWII Victory Medal.
He had a great sense of humor, was an avid golfer who still has his original Bobby Jones Clubs, a dedicated NY Yankees fan going back to the DiMaggio, Gehrig, and Ruth days.
Herbert married the love of his life, Anna (Besemer) Lees in April of 1948 at the Preakness Reformed Church, Wayne and began their forty-seven year marriage with a honeymoon at Niagara Falls.
He was the beloved husband of the late Anna Besemer Lees(2005); loving father of Thomas Gillespie and his wife Susanne of Lakewood, Herbert A Lees of Wayne and Judy Mett and her husband Otto, Jr. of Stockholm; cherished grandfather of Todd Gillespie and his wife Theresa, Timothy Gillespie, Steven Mett and his wife Amy, Jennifer Mett, Caitlin Mett Henderson and her husband George; devoted great-grandfather of Alexandra and Thomas A. Gillespie; much loved brother of Evelyn DiAugustinis of Morgan, NC.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation - donation 120 Wall Street, 19th Floor New York, NY 10005 would be appreciated.
