Irene “Betty” Fiorino, April 26, 2020. Betty was born on December 25, 1927 in Barnsley, England (UK) to Eric and Dorothy Heath. Growing up in England, Betty’s parents took her on many adventurous holidays around the world including Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Switzerland, Canada and her favorite Guyana where her father was employed for a time. She made a career in the hospitality business in London and was employed by DH Evans and Dickens and Jones before moving to the United States in 1960. She settled in Paterson, NJ from where she bused to New York City to continue her career with the NYC School Meal Service and as caterer for Horn & Hardart. Betty met her husband William “Bill” Fiorino 10 years later. They were married and set up residence in Belleville, NJ, before moving to Wayne, NJ in 1977.
Betty was a wonderful cook and baker and very talented with a knitting needle creating an array of useful and decorative treasures enjoyed by many of her family members and friends. She and Bill would always kick off the summer with the family's annual Memorial Day picnic filled with good food and games. She was an avid puzzler and could be frequently found at her dining room table assembling one. Betty was an animal lover and enjoyed gardening and being outdoors.
Betty will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Bill. She is survived by her nieces Dianne Salvatore and her husband Jeffrey Petrucelli of Lakewood Ranch, FL, and their children; Lisa Salvatore Dunn of Riverview, FL, and her children; Anita Durst and her husband Ernie of Jeanette, PA, and their family; and her nephew Larry Salvatore and his wife Nancy of Toms River, NJ and their children.
