Isak Yahes, 82, of Wayne died on Saturday November 3, 2007. His passing was quiet and peaceful while at home with his family.
He was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1925 and lived there before coming to America in 1956, originally settling in the Bronx. He later lived with his family in the Whitestone section of Queens, Teaneck, NJ, Oakland, NJ, and eventually settled in Wayne 14 years ago. He attended Robert College in Istanbul, graduating with a degree in Business Administration. He worked in the Import/Export industry in Turkey where he was able to use his fluency in English, Spanish, French, and Turkish to conduct international trade.
He enjoyed 62 years of ‘wonderful’ marriage to Elda, until her passing in 2005. Isak and Elda were acquaintances in Turkey, but fell in love when they later met in Israel. They married shortly thereafter in Turkey and began to raise their family together there. He was a devoted husband and truly loved his wife.
His family remembers him as a “realistic” man, and a man of his word. He enjoyed traveling and filming their vacations. They especially recall his “Pearls of Wisdom”; when he would offer his wisdom and advice to them. After a debilitating stroke at the age of 55, Isak found the ability to enjoy life vicariously through the rest of his family. His grandson Jarrod describes how his grandfather was so proud of his children and grandchildren, their successes in life, and how it made him so happy simply to see all of them doing well and living the ‘American Dream’. His legacy lives on proudly in all of them.
He is survived by two sons; Meir and his wife Estelle of Edgewater, NJ; Leon and his wife Litsi of Quito, Ecuador; one daughter Orette and her husband Mehran Vaziri of Wayne; four grandsons, Jarrod Yahes of NY, NY; Matthew Yahes of Chicago, Il; Alexander Vaziri and Austin Vaziri both of Wayne; and one granddaughter, Rachel Yahes of NY, NY. It is also special to note that he was predeceased by all four of his faithful canine companions; Heidi, Othello, Hammy, and Mammy.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Isak’s memory to the Hospice of New Jersey, 400 Broad Acres Drive, Bloomfield, NJ 07003.
