James “Coffee” B. Iaconio, Sr. age 94 of North Haledon passed peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2013.

He was born in Paterson at the family home on Hoxey Street.  He attended School # 7 and Central High School with the Class of 1936.  He left high school during his junior year to seek work and support the family income.  He found work in the Paterson silk mills as a weaver on a loom.  He soon found another job as a plumber’s helper and eventually started his own plumbing business as Automatic Heating in Paterson for over forty years.  He also worked as a Plumber Foreman at William Paterson University in Wayne where he worked from 1964 until retiring in 1984.  During his tenure at William Paterson he kept his plumbing business going which he continued through the early 1990’s.

When Jim was just seven years old he was playing on the street corner when a truck took the corner too close and hit him.  He spent the better part of a year at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson.  His mother, while still caring for Jim’s six siblings, would walk 15 blocks (about 1 ½ miles) from Hoxey Street to the hospital at least once or twice a day bringing him food and her motherly comfort.

He played cards for many years with a special group of his buddies. At least once or twice a year he would bring his wife Annie to Las Vegas where he would play Blackjack for hours on end. Jim enjoyed flower gardening around the home and grew tomatoes, cucumbers, and all the typical Italian garden vegetables. His special touch on Pizzagaina - Italian Easter Pie - will be missed by the family, friends, and neighbors he would make it for. He was also dedicated to his Catholic faith and Catholic charities – something his mother taught him many years ago. Jim will be remembered as a very family oriented man who was not overly demonstrative with his emotions, but conveyed his love for you in his own special way.

He was the devoted husband of fifty-eight years to the late Annie B. (Sloss) Iaconio (2009); loving father of James Iaconio and his wife Eileen of Haledon; cherished grandfather of Jimmy Iaconio of Haledon, and his fiancé Kristen Lippmann, and Dana Galusha and her husband Nick of Schenectady, NY; dear great-grandfather of Grayson James Galusha; loved brother of the late Frank “Chippy”, Johnny, Alexander, Michael, and Sadie Iaconio, and Edith Brancato.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Valley Hospital Foundation, 233 N. Van Dien Ave., Ridgewood NJ 07450 would be appreciated.
