Janny Nitschelm age 95 of Pompton Lakes, passed Monday, April 20, 2020.
She was born to Jan Hamkes and Jacoba Bezembinder in Steenwijk, Holland. Janny met her husband Camile Nitschelm while she was working for the government in the Netherlands. They married on January 14, 1950 and shortly thereafter they immigrated to the United States. They were sponsored to the United States by Camile’s cousin who lived in Iowa. They initially moved to Iowa but Janny wanted no part of living there. She and Camile moved back to live in Ridgewood, New Jersey and settled in Pompton Lakes where they lived for fifty-two years before Camile’s passing in 2002.
Janny was the loving mother of the late Elizabeth “Lindy” McKenna (2008) and her surviving husband Bob of Lake Hopatcong, and Yvonne Micholas of Pompton Lakes; she was the cherished grandmother of Bobby Bateson, Kimberly, Bateson, the late Lisa Bateson, Michael Micholas and Michele Micholas; she was also dearly loved by her great-grandchildren Alyssa Bateson, Mikey Micholas, Brendan Bramley, and Jayce Bramley.
