Jason A. de la Osa, age 21 of Wayne, died tragically on Wednesday, June 10, 2015. He was full of zeal and eager to begin his career with uncommon passion.

Jason grew up in Wayne and graduated from Wayne Hills High School with the class of 2013. He joined the lacrosse team his junior year at Hills, a late start for a high school sport by anyone’s standards, yet he amazingly managed to earn team MVP by the end of the season! This is a testament to Jason’s competitive nature and his uncompromising will to be the best he could be.

After high school, he continued his education at the Universal Technical Institute in Exton, PA, graduating with honors just a few weeks ago. Along with one of his UTI classmates, he started a company called Reckless Intentions, LLC and they were planning their first drifting event at the UTI campus in Exton, PA to be held this month. Later this year, he was planning to further his education at the NASCAR Technical Institute located in Mooresville, NC and he had also been accepted into a technical program offered by Mercedes Benz. Needless to say, he had focused his enthusiasm for cars (and horsepower!) into a clear career path which he was anxiously pursuing. In the long term, he had planned to open an automotive business with this brother Matthew, where they could enjoy their love of cars together.

Ever since he was a young kid, he displayed an intuitive mechanical ability that very few people possess. He could take things apart and put them back together again without any instructions. One time, as a young teenager, he replaced the screen on his father’s iPhone without ever having been taught how to do so. He just took it apart, with pieces all over the table, replaced the screen and reassembled it…and it worked like new! As he matured, his interests turned to cars, motorcycles, and just about anything with an engine on it. He simply loved to learn how things worked, and how he could improve upon them.

There was something magnetic about Jason’s personality. Perhaps it was his character, his charismatic sense of humor, his compassion, his handsome smile, his positive attitude towards life, or maybe it was all of these things combined. He was a true friend to so many people and really cared about his friends. He was the ‘go-to’ guy for a lot of people and he would drop everything to help you. He would never say ‘no’ and was happy to be there for you. He had a great sense of humor that made everyone laugh. He had a mischievous bent, but no matter what prank he pulled on you – you just couldn’t get mad at him. He was a peace-loving guy who seemed never to be in a bad mood. His parents describe him as an “amazing kid” who always made them proud. Jason was a very grateful son and he thanked his parents often for everything they provided. His mom recalls how he never, ever left the house without looking prim and proper, well groomed, complete with a splash of fresh cologne. Jason was also extremely close with his twin brother Matthew, and their sister Krystina. They love each other dearly and Krystina could talk to Jason about anything and he would do his best to be a good listener, and he was never judgmental. Krystina jokingly said on many occasions that SHE should have been Jason’s twin because they were just that close to one another. Jason was simply a good human being, a great friend, a loving son and brother, with a genuine personality that people gravitated to. He was the kind of guy the world could use more of, and he will be sorely missed by so, so many.

Jason is survived by his devoted parents; Arthur and Reina de la Osa of Wayne, his sister Krystina and brother Matthew, his grandparents; Josephine de la Osa of Edgewater, NJ, Gisela and Rangel Roche of Union City, NJ, his aunt and uncle, Franky and Maria Roche of Middletown, cousins; Melissa Olmeda and her husband Jason of Middeltown, NJ and Arielle Roche of Middletown, NJ, as well as many dear friends.

Donations in Jason’s memory would be greatly appreciated to Reckless Intentions, LLC and mailed c/o Vander May Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Rd., Wayne, NJ 07470.
