Jean Louis Martin age 87 of Wayne passed away peacefully on July 3rd, 2015 with his family by his side.
Jean was born in Lot et Garonne, France. He was raised in Bretegne, by his mother Jeanne Fitamant and went to school in a Monastery in France as a young boy. He served in the French Army when he was a young man of 18 – 19 years of age. In 1953, Jean went in search of the American Dream and immigrated to the United States of America. Within two weeks of arriving in this country he landed a job as a bottle-washer at Hoffman-La Roche in Nutley, NJ. He worked hard during the day and attended school at night. He attended Fairleigh Dickenson University at night and eventually received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. This was something his family remembers him being very proud of and after having accomplished this, Hoffman-La Roche then offered him a job as a Perfumer Chemist. He would hold this position for 32 years at which time he retired from Hoffman-La Roche.
Shortly after coming to the United States, Jean often attended French community events and dances in the New York area, and through these events and family he met a young woman named Marie-Francoise Le Bellour. Following a wonderful and romantic courtship they were married in 1964. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Wayne Township. They would call this place their home for the rest of their lives and would raise their two loving children Yvette and Claude there as well. Jean and Marie-Francoise cherished 50 years of loving marriage.
The Martin family never called any type of service to fix anything in their home, including their automobiles. Jean could fix just about anything. He had great insight as to how things worked and fancied working with his hands. His family remembers him as being a “Man of Science and Logic”. He enjoyed spending time working in his garden, he loved to read, enjoyed fishing, and followed many French related sports such as Soccer and the Tour de France. Above all of his interests and talents, Jean loved to spend time with his family. He was a truly devoted husband, father and grandfather. His family remembers how throughout his entire life, he always tried to set the proper example for his family. He was outspoken about the things he believed, and at the top of that list was family morals and values. Jean was an extraordinary man who influenced and touched the lives of a great many people. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Jean is survived by his wife Marie-Francoise (nee Le Bellour), 1 daughter Yvette Martin and her husband Pablo Barcacel of Belleville, 1 son Claude Martin of Hewitt, 2 grandchildren Isaiah and Isarina .
