Jeanette Amoia, age 91, of Pompton Plains, passed away on Wednesday, May 20th, 2026 with family by her side.
Her parents were Walter and Jeanette Herbig of Jersey City, NJ, where she was born and raised and attended school. She worked in an office dealing with banking and stocks. She was one of 6 children.
Jeanette was married to Jack Amoia on May 14, 1955 in Jersey City and had 3 children, Patricia Ann (partner Lloyd Mason), Maureen Amoia (deceased) and Barbara Jean Anderson, husband Blair.
She was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Gina Segali, husband Michael, Joseph Rutigliano, Matthew Shindle, fiancé Rieanna Bates and Vanessa Shindle, partner Jacob Palmieri. She also had 2 great-grandchildren, Siena Jean Segali and Bella Elisabeth Segali.
Being around her family was her true joy in life. Jean loved to cook and could often be found in the kitchen making huge family dinners. There was nothing better than a great meal shared with family and friends around the table.
She also loved to garden all her life. When first married in Jersey City, Jean and Jack would grow many fruits and vegetables. They always hosted big family BBQ’s at their home that included swimming, great food, family and friends.
Jean was fiercely independent, incredibly organized and kept a sparkling clean home that she was very proud of. She was always very put together, well dressed and always very beautiful inside and out. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors, friends and family members, especially her children and was incredibly generous with her time.
She spent her retirement years in Toms River, NJ and only recently, relocated north where she spent her final days with her family.
As she loved the outdoors and gardening, a bench will be placed in her honor at Laurelwood Arboretum in Wayne, NJ. For those who wish to visit, the bench location will be on their website map some time after mid July.
