Jerry H., Piro, Jr., age 69 of Pequannock, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 8, 2017.
Jerry was born in Montclair and raised in Cedar Grove. He was a graduate of Memorial High School in Cedar Grove, Class of 1965. He spent most of his professional career working at Givaudan Fragrances of Clifton.
Jerry met his beloved wife, Maryann in October, 1969. They were married in 1972. Together they enjoyed 44 wonderful and loving years together as man and wife.
In 1972 Jerry and Maryann purchased a home in Pequannock where they have remained for the past 44 years. There they raised their two children Marc and Nicole.
If you were to ask anyone about Jerry, the two most precious things were his love for his family and the game of baseball. For fifteen years he coached in the Pequannock Little League where he was known to be willing to practice with his players seven days a week if they wanted to. Jerry had the honor of coaching his own son Marc and many of his lifelong friends who excelled under his coaching skills. In a long-standing tradition passed down in his family, Jerry himself was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Jerry had a huge heart. It seemed that wherever he saw a need, he was eager to step in and help. He could often be found leading in the coordination of fundraisers for good causes and yet he never looked for any recognition, actually choosing to avoid it instead. To Jerry, helping a fellow human in need was all he wanted. A man who valued his family greatly, he was truly proud of his children and loved being a grandfather to his two granddaughters and one grandson. Jerry was also a man of faith and attended mass at Our Lady of Consolation Church on a regular basis.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife Maryann, his dear son Marc and wife Jennifer Piro of Wayne, his dear daughter Nicole and husband Kyle Piazza of Rockaway and three cherished grandchildren, Madison, Samantha, and Colton.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy in Jerry’s name are asked to consider Make-A-Wish Foundation Samuel and Josephine Plumeri Wishing Place, 1347 Perrineville Road, Monroe Township, NJ 08831, or online at nj.wish.org
