Joan Cadorin (nee Quackenbush), 95, of Sparta, NJ, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2026. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
Born at St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic, she attended schools in Clifton, NJ. She loved to tell stories about her best friend growing up, who was also named Joan, and who later married the famous astronaut, Buzz Aldrin. She graduated from Clifton HS in 1948 and then became a registered nurse, graduating from Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing in Montclair, NJ.
She married Richard Cadorin in 1958. Joan and Dick started their married life in Clifton, but after having 5 daughters, needed a larger house and eventually moved to Wayne, NJ. Joan then took employment as a visiting nurse with the Visiting Health Services of the Township of Wayne. Joan and Dick loved living by the ocean, and spent time in Cape Cod, MA and wintered down in Hilton Head, SC.
They came back to NJ and spent many years living in Sparta, NJ, to be around their daughters and 11 grandchildren. Joan was an active volunteer in Sparta, spending much time at Newton Memorial Hospital Auxilliary. She loved to read, listen to music, take walks and cook. She was an active note taker, with handwritten notes found in many books.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard J. Cadorin, and survived by her five daughters: Jill Cadorin of Sparta, Nan North of Hilo, HI, Fay Vujic of Mountain Lakes, Clare Campbell of Wayne and Beth Wharton of Wyckoff; and her 11 grandchildren: Evan, Colin, Ian, Aggy, Nicholas, Connor, Alec, Carly, Christopher, Tyler, and Ryan.
