Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015, 10 AM at the Ebenezer Netherland Reformed Church, 875 Ewing Ave., Franklin Lakes.
Interment will be in the First Reformed Church Cemetery, Pompton Plains.
Johanna Willekes age 75 of Pompton Plains passed peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2015.
She was born in Barendrecht, Netherlands and came to the United States on a Holland America Line ship arriving in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1951. The family settled into a home on Valley Road in Wayne. She has lived in Bloomingdale and Wayne before moving to Pequannock where she has lived for the past forty-five years.
Johanna was a member of the Ebenezer Netherland Reformed Church in Franklin Lakes and served with the Lois Circle at the church for many years. She served as the church organist of the People’s Park Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Paterson before they merged with the church in Franklin Lakes in 1972.
She was the loving wife of John Willekes; loving mother of Jo-Ellen Dolengo and her husband Brian of Bloomingdale, and the late Carl J. Willekes (2012); dear sister of Gerda Van Grouw and her husband Don of Pequannock, Julia Steenhof-DeJong and her husband Jop of the Netherlands, Gary DenHollander and his wife Linda of Grand Rapids, MI, and the late Gilian Pols, Mae Waterman, Jacob DenHollander, Elizabeth Tanis, Maria Groenenboom, Nellie Dendekker and her surviving husband Peter, the late Louisa Dendekker and her surviving husband John, and the late Christina DeBat.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School, 164 Jacksonville Road, Pompton Plains, NJ 07444 would be appreciated.
