John J. Daly, age 81, of Brick formerly of Wayne passed peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the New Jersey Firemen’s Home in Boonton, NJ.

He was born and raised in Paterson, NJ. John graduated from Saint John’s High School in Paterson with the Class of 1953. It was there that he met the love of his life, Patricia Dowling. While on a date as friends they had their first kiss, sparks flew, and they fell deeply in love. John and Patricia married on July 9, 1955 at Saint Paul’s Church in Clifton. John and Patricia had a devoted and loving marriage for 59 years until Patricia’s sudden passing on April 7, 2015. John’s heart was truly broken on that day.

John was drafted into the US Army having served during the Korean War. John was a Paterson policeman for 2 years later accepting a position with the Paterson Fire Department where he served for 22 ½ years, retiring in 1986. He also ran a local appliance repair business for 30 years.

Some fond family memories are Seaside Park vacations and many family pool parties at their Alps Road home in Wayne. John enjoyed playing the guitar, bowling and golf. He also enjoyed country music and watching the Mets or Yankees on TV.

John was the devoted father of John J. Daly, Jr. of Brick, Robert J. Daly and his wife Maureen of Pequannock, Michael J. Daly and his wife Donna of Wayne, Laurie A. Kokos and her husband Alex of Wayne, Linda A. Thomson and her husband Randy of Wayne, and David J. Daly and his wife Patricia of West Milford; he was the cherished grandfather of sixteen grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters.

John was predeceased by his siblings Frances O’Brien, Catherine Livingstone, Anna Struck, and James Daly.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the NJ Firemen’s Home, 565 Lathrop Avenue, Boonton, NJ 07005 would be appreciated.
