John J. Paylo age 89 of Wayne died Saturday, October 27, 2007 at the Atrium at Wayne while surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Luzerne Mines, PA where his father worked as a mine starter in the mining industry. John's family moved throughout West Virginia, Kentucky and Pennsylvania as a result of his fathers career. After his military service he lived in Paterson before moving to Wayne forty years ago.
John is an Army Veteran having served from 1939 to 1940. He was then drafted into the Navy where he served from 1943 – 1944 during WW II.
While in the service he received letters from his future wife Ann, although they had never met, their families knew each other and Ann became his pen pal. Their first date was at the Worlds Fair.
He was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Valley RC Church, Wayne.
John worked in the Hayden Chemical Plant, Garfield and the New Arden Chemical Company, Paterson before retiring in 1993 at the age of 75. He also worked for the Wayne Board of Education for ten years.
John was a quiet man who never wanted attention. He was a devoted family man who worked two jobs almost his whole life. He was truly a “good guy”.
Surviving are his loving wife of sixty-seven years Ann (Gondola) Paylo; devoted father of Dennis J. Paylo and his wife Patricia of Wayne and Kenneth J. Paylo of Fort Lauderdale, FL; cherished grandfather of Lori, Dennis, John, Katharine, Vena and Arion; much loved great-grandfather of Amanda, John, Emily and Victoria.
