Milbauer Sr. - "Milbee" “Chief” "Sr,", age 62, passed Wednesday, March 11, 2015.
He was born on October 31, 1952 in Newark, NJ, son of the late John and Caroline Milbauer. John was a lifelong resident of Wayne, NJ. Graduating from Wayne Valley High School with the Class of 1970.
When John was just sixteen years old he joined Wayne P.O.L Fire Company #2 as a junior member, where he served as an active member for the past forty-seven years. John worked his way through the ranks eventually attaining the rank of Chief. He served as Chief for a total of six years, 1979, 1994-1996, and again in 1999-2000.
His first job was for Western Book Publishing in Wayne where he worked as a packer. He later worked as a truck driver for L.O. Mead Inc. in Riverdale, NJ and RJ Trucking in Carlstadt, NJ. In 1986 he started his own trucking company, Milbee & Sons Express Inc.
While working at Western Book Publishing, John met his wife Diane Robbins. For their first date, they went to Wayne Theatre at the Preakness Shopping Center to see “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” John proposed to Diane on her mother’s couch in Butler and they were married on February 17, 1973. The wedding reception was held at P.O.L. Fire Company #2 in Wayne. They honeymooned at Disney World in Florida.
John will be remembered for his love of the outdoors. Fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and boating were favorite hobbies of his. His favorite snowmobiling destination was Old Forge, NY. His life long dream of building a cabin in the woods in Camden, NY, became a reality in 2002. He also enjoyed four wheeling in Tug Hill, NY. Fishing with his sons, family, and friends on the Black River and camping in Dexter, NY, always brought joy to his life. The family fondly remembers their annual two week vacation at Lake George, NY.
Many will recall his strong willed personality. Most will say his stubbornness got in the way, but it also made him the person he was. Recently at the hospital his family came into his room and asked what he ate, he lifted a lid on the hospital food and said “this is what I was supposed to eat” and then opened the wrapper to an Veal Parmesan sandwich he had ordered to his room from a local pizzeria and said “this is what I actually ate.” His personality came through even when John was on the operating table. Calling the family aside, the doctor said he found something they had to talk about. Thinking the doctor found something else wrong with John, the family learned that he really found a pack of cigarettes hidden in John’s armpit on the off chance John might be able to sneak a cigarette when nobody was looking.
John was the loving husband of Diane Milbauer; devoted father of John Milbauer, Jr. and fiance Cheryl Galley of Albrightsville, PA, James Milbauer and wife Melanie of Ringwood, NJ, and Jennifer Reilly and husband Steven Toth of Wayne, NJ. John "Pop-Pop" was the cherished grandfather of Jessica, James, Brianna, Hayley, Tommy, John, Gina, Cheyenne, and Brittany. He was the dear brother of Debra Antenucci and husband Edward of Bushkill, PA. He was predeceased by his beloved German Wirehaired Pointer “Bridget” and is survived and dearly missed by his Brittany named “Rocky.”
In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the DaVita Lincoln Park Dialysis Center, 6 Frassetto Way, Suite A, Lincoln Park, NJ 07035-2055 would be appreciated.
