Friends may visit with the family at the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne, on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 4-8 PM.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 9:30 AM from the funeral home, followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
John P. Hughes, age 90, of Pompton Plains, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015.
Born in Albany, NY, John was a resident of Nutley for many years before moving to Pompton Plains in 2009.
John was sole proprietor of a number of retail businesses, most notably Centre Confectionary in Nutley during the 1960’s and 1970’s. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.
Surviving are his dear daughter Ellen and husband Radovan “Ray” Djurin; his two cherished grandchildren: Alexandra and husband Eric Lindorff and Christopher Djurin; and his dear sister Ruth and husband Jack Shiels of Mendham, NJ. John was predeceased by his beloved wife of 45 years, Florence in 2003, and his brother Joe McCabe.
