Services
Funeral services will be held 9:30 AM on Thursday, December 28, 2006 from the Vander May Wayne Colonial Funeral Home, 567 Ratzer Road, Wayne then to Immaculate Heart of Mary RC Church, Wayne where at 10:30 AM a Funeral Mass will be celebrated.
Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 PM. Interment will be in Christ The King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes.
John Paul Mergenthaler age 45 of Wayne died unexpectedly on Thursday, December 21, 2006.
He was born in Pompton Plains and had lived in Wayne all of his life.
John received his formal education at DePaul High School in Wayne graduating with the Class of 1979. He held a great interest in cars and went to Lincoln Technical Institute in Montville to study to be an automotive mechanic.
He was a parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary RC Church in Wayne and was very dedicated to his Roman Catholic faith.
His hobbies included everything on wheels including cars, motorcycles, and all types of racing. He also enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, playing pool, bowling and cards. John was an avid reader, loved history, was kind hearted, loved the outdoors and had a witty sense of humor.
Beloved father of Jessica Mergenthaler; former husband of Karen Mergenthaler; brother of Linda Petsch, Bonnie Mergenthaler, and Gayle Patterson; also survived by two nieces Kimberly Vuz and Kelly Patterson; one nephew Ryan Patterson and two great-nieces Victoria and Veronica Vuz.
He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Rita Mergenthaler; his brother Gary T. Mergenthaler predeceased him in 1969, as a teenager, in a tragic automobile crash.
