John R. Reed age 65 of Stockholm, formerly of Wayne, passed Thursday, January 7, 2016.

He was born in Paterson and raised in Wayne having graduated from Wayne Valley High School with the Class of 1968. At the age of eighteen John moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to attend college and at the age of twenty-five he returned to Wayne and lived in Garfield and Parsippany before moving to Stockholm.

John met a beautiful girl, the love of his life Cookie (Connie) Caliente and after only three months of dating, told her she was the girl he was going to marry. John gave her an engagement ring during Christmas of 1981 and they married on February 13, 1982 at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Wayne with a reception at the West Orange Manor.

He enjoyed working around the house and could fix or build just about anything. He loved the simple things in life, was a sharp dresser, liked to disappear and when he came back would state he had “gone fishin’,” was a devout Bob Marley and Rolling Stones fan, and could often be heard saying: “life is good.” He loved his parrot “Lucky” who he found sitting on his roof one day. After coaxing him down with some sunflowers seeds, and trying in vain to find the rightful owner, Lucky became the family pet. When thinking of John many will remember the “Johnny Isms,” way too many to list here. All that being said the most important thing to John was his family. He loved nothing more than being with them, cooking and enjoying life.

John was the loving husband of Cookie (Connie) Reed; devoted father of Anthony Reed, his wife Carrie and his cherished grandson Nicholas of North Arlington, Joseph of Stockholm and more recently of Gilbert, AZ, and Jessica Reed of Stockholm; devoted son of John Francis Reed of Toms River and the late Ruth Reed; cherished grandfather of Nicholas Reed; dear brother of David Reed and his wife Donna of Jefferson, Susan Schulte and her husband John of Annapolis, MD, William “Billy” Reed and his wife Christine of Wayne, and Steven Reed and his wife Janie of High Point, NC.
