Joseph J. Milarczyk age 87 of Wayne died peacefully on Sunday, July 22, 2012.
He was born in Harrisburg Pennsylvania and moved to Wayne when he was ten years old. He finished two years at Wayne High School, where he played baseball and football, and was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal.
Joe served as a Wayne Police Officer for thirty-eight years before retiring in 1985. When he first started their was a total of nine policeman working out of the old Police Station in the Mountainview section of the township.
He was liked by everyone, would help anyone, and had a crazy sense of humor. He loved the outdoors and in his younger years enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved his family and grandchildren unconditionally. He was an animal lover at heart having had a pony named Silver and a Saint Bernard, named Duchess. Joe didn’t like crowds and enjoyed getting away from it all while camping throughout the Midwest.
Joe and Irene met at the then Texaco gas station on top of French Hill. Their first date was to the drive in movies where Joe had free passes to the movie and they shared a hot dog. Joe and Irene fell in love and married at the Passaic Chapel with their reception at Donahue's in Wayne. The honeymooned in Florida after driving there because Joe never wanted to fly. They enjoyed sixty one years of a loving and devoted marriage.
He was the loving husband of Irene (Kahman) Milarczyk for 61 years ; loving father of William Milarczyk of Wayne, Susan Haggerty and her husband Michael of Vernon, and the late George Milarczyk (2004); cherished grandfather of five grandchildren: Kevin Haggerty, Glenn Milarczyk, Christoper Haggerty, Kelly Talerico and her husband Lenny Talerico, Tracey Milarczyk ; and proud Great-Grandfather of Tristan Joseph Talerico; loved brother of August Milarczyk of Florida, George Milarczyk of Scranton, PA, and the late John, Andrew, Josephine, Frank; and Trixie.
