Josephine A. Magee (Balistrieri) age 94 of Butler passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 25, 2015.
She was born in Paterson having lived on Straight Street. She lived in Newark and moved to Haskell in 1948.
Josephine worked in a balloon factory in Haskell where she worked packaging items on an assembly line. She later worked for the Artistic Weaving Company in Haskell and the Fiesta Hut in Butler, and lastly the Bloomingdale Laundromat before retiring in 1999.
Josephine will be remembered as a kibitzer, jokester, and most importantly a nurturing mother and grandmother. Her children remember her Zoro like skill at swinging a coat hanger at them when they acted up as children and her famous saying “wait ‘til your father gets home.” She was feisty, a hard worker, and self-sufficient up until the age of 90 when the family had to take her driver’s license away because of too many unexplained dents on the four corners of her car. Although they thought about it nobody had the nerve to give her a license plate frame that said “My other car is a broom.” She loved her parakeets, enjoyed watching soap operas on television, and was infatuated with Perry Como keeping a picture of him on the wall and refrigerator. Her special motherly touch on quiche, cheesecake, Sheppard’s pie, and all kinds of cookies will be greatly missed. In her retirement she enjoyed babysitting her neighbor’s children.
She was the loving wife of Robert A. Magee (1984); devoted mother of Robert J. Magee and his wife Evelyn of Butler, Barbara Chauvin and her husband Steve of Georgia, and William Magee and his wife Pamela of Oakland; cherished grandmother of Kelly Reape, Robert Thomas Magee, Randi Jones, Billy Max Magee, and Jesse Magee; adored great-grandmother of Ryan Jones, Alexis Jones, Kyle Magee, and Jack Magee; dear sister of Thomas Balistrieri and his wife Tomasina of Wayne, Rose Ricci of Wayne, Sally Thomas and her husband Russ of Vernon, and the late Sam Balistrieri, Concetta Avolio, Tony Balistrieri, and Sister Lucy Balistrieri
Memorial donations to Mary Help of Christians, 655 Belmont Ave, North Haledon, NJ 07508, would be appreciated.
