A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 12:00 PM, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 580 Ratzer Road, Wayne, NJ.
It is with profound sadness and deep love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Josephine Corona (nee Cicalese). She departed this life on July 26th in her home comforted by her daughter’s partner, Gerard, holding her hand. It was very apropos as her children affectionately refer to him as her 4th son.
Josephine was born in the Ironbound section of Newark and resided in her childhood home until the passing of her husband Carmen “Spider” Corona in 2022. She raised her four children in that home and missed it terribly when she relocated to Wayne, sharing a home with her daughter and Gerard. She always pointed out that suburban life in no way compared to the sounds of Warwick Street in Newark, which she was accustomed to for almost her entire life.
She was the daughter of the late Giuseppe Cicalese and Alfonsina Mauro, wife of the late Carmen “Spider” Corona, and predeceased by her siblings Thomas, Angelina Noggle, and Virginia Canareli.
She was the devoted and loving mother of Thomas (LeeLee), Carmen (Margaret), Steven (Kathleen), and Laura (Gerard). She is survived by 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family and dear friend Patty Leonard as well as her sweet dog, whom she named Luigi, after the middle name of her late husband.
Josephine will be remembered for her gentle wit, quiet strength, and kind heart. Her only granddaughter, Lisa, nicknamed her “Gammy me”. It was born out of love, laughter, and the bond they shared while traveling together. While our hearts mourn her passing, we find peace and comfort knowing she has been reunited with her beloved husband Carmen.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Judes Children’s Hospital would be greatly appreciated, as that was one of the charities mom donated to regularly.
