Josephine Massoud, age 84, formerly of Wayne, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2017 while receiving the loving care of her family.

Our mother and matriarch Josephine passed away on December 8, 2017 to begin her journey home to her daughter Patricia, her mother Mary, her father Elias and the rest of her departed family and friends. Josephine lived life " Her Way". She always had a clear and confident vision for herself and her family. Josephine's love is strong, omnipresent and something that her family and friends cherish and rely on, like a shelter from the storm.. With OUR mother you always felt safe and you knew that she always had your back. When deserving she dealt swift, effective and conclusive discipline, but when the tears settled Josephine was there without fail to build you back up and let you know that no matter what you did you were still loved. "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time!" Her brand of love was intended to build character by bringing you to the source of the conflict, no matter how uncomfortable, for a face-to-face apology and hopeful resolution. Her "Iron Will" was never more apparent than when after 30 years of smoking a pack a day she stopped cold turkey on the birth of her first grandchild. Never to smoke again!

Our Josephine was and exceptional teacher. Countless Massoud's learned how to swim under her instruction in the pool at Emerson place in Wayne. There was only one rule, you drop off your child and you leave. The family bowling instructor produced students of high average and the captain of the Depaul bowling team. Not to mention that she carried a 187 average and was a legend in female bowling at T-ball in Wayne. When Josephine was on a roll, the lanes went silent like the time she notched a 297. Her hand eye coordination was incredible ,not only in sports but also as the family doctor. Just ask any of her patients who underwent splinter removal.

Perhaps her HOSPITALITY is what she's known best for by her friends and family. Organization was not just a passion but a necessity and an art of Josephines. Stop and think about the sheer number of people who passed through her front door. Not to mention those who chose to go around back called by the sounds of revelry. It was truly great because you never knew who was going to come around the side of the house to add to the party. She worked 14 hour days seven days a week and twice on the holidays. We all have memories of Christmas Eve , the Budbadah and we already miss the smell from her kitchen. You could eat in, have some laughs and tell stories, or you could pick up a package of love to take home to your family. Hospitality is Josephine, but always served with the biggest portion of Fun! EVERYONE has their favorite auntie Jo story.

At the age of 60 Josephine was dealt the worst possible hand, loss of a child, her precious daughter Patricia. Instead of being rewarded for all of her hard work with the joys of simply being a grandma, she was thrust back into the role of a parent to Patricia's children. But with Josephine there were No Excuses, simply unacceptable! Josephine and her husband began a decade of five hour round trip rides to South Jersey to assure Patty's children got their Sito Giddo and family time. No Exceptions! That is what you can expect when you are loved by Josephine.

Josephine gave wise counsel to those who would show up on her doorstep no matter the time or circumstances. Often she played family mediator or loving listener. Not unlike anyone else, sometimes people would get upset with her, but I believe most often it was caused by her shining a light on your imperfections in a dangerous attempt to help you reach your full potential.

My Mom was a living example of CLASS, HONOR and UNCONDITIONAL LOVE and she is DEEPLY MISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Josephine is survived by her husband Joseph Massoud of Cypress, TX, two sons; Anthony Massoud of Spring, TX, and Bryan Massoud and his wife Jodi of Englewood Cliffs, one daughter; Michele Rosell and her husband Robert of Cypress, TX, two sisters; Gloria Massoud, and Shirley Massood, two brothers; Mike Massood, and Joseph Massood, 15 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Patricia Massoud Beer in 1994.
