Katherine A. Hartwig (nee Johansen) age 86 of Haskell died Sunday, August 5, 2007 at the Chilton Memorial Hospital.
Her passing was quiet and peaceful with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Port Richmond, Staten Island, New York where she spent her youthful years. She then moved to Haskell where she lived for the past sixty years.
She received her formal education at Port Richmond High School graduating with the Class of 1939.
Katherine was employed as a teller for the First National Bank of Passaic County in Wayne which after a series of bank mergers became Wachovia Bank. She retired as Head Teller in 2000 after forty years of service to the bank.
Katherine was an active participant with the Wanaque Seniors in Haskell. She was gifted with a special green thumb and maintained an especially beautiful flower garden at her home.
She leaves her family with many fond memories of an adoring mother, grandmother and great grandmother who was very special to her family. She was gifted with a friendly personality that was very warm in her relationships with friends.
Christian and Katherine Hartwig had fifty-six years of “happy and productive” years of marriage until Christian’s passing in October 1996.
Great sadness also impacted her life losing two sons William P. Hartwig in 1992 and Richard C. Hartwig in 1996.
Surviving are two sons John E. Hartwig and his wife Susan of Medford and Garry A. Hartwig and his wife Diane of Wayne; also surviving are ten grandchildren Ethan Hartwig and his wife Christine, Erica, Christian, Alison, Jaclyn, Kathryn, Eric and Jamie Hartwig, Kristina Wendt and her husband Kurt and Kimberly Ribinski and her husband Robert; four great grandchildren Richard, Robert and Ryan Wendt and Hannah Ribinski.
